My condolences on your son's (and apparently your) loss OP. Just remember it's a long season and that was just one game!

I was right with you until this

You take an average team and give them a few pitchers that are dominant and you can win any where.

You just want to put that sticker on your truck and show off the trophies to other dads. This isn’t about the kids anymore to you

No it’s not. Having insane fast twitch muscles, incredible hand eye coordination, and thebframe of an adult while being a teenager did.

Might as well tell boys to skip high school and college ball in order to get to NFL

Yes but I need to drop upwards of 80 grand over a 10 year period to have any chance of my son getting a full scholarship (quarter tuition and half books) worth $25k.

Totally worth it for all the cool decals on the back of their Chevy Tahoe.

What are you talking about? I’m saying playing endless, expensive, trace baseball is not why he made it to the majors

Because travel ball parents are a special lot. It's like the little league dad who tries way too hard to live vicariously through his son, but on steroids.

this has been trending upward for yearssssssssss now, embarrassed for them

I’m talking soccer, but in that it’s 4 games over two days if you’re in the finals...That’s a frick ton. That’s what my boy’s tired of. He went to watch the high school playoffs tonight, and he commented on how hard he could try if it were just one game.

My 11 yo plays club soccer and there are plenty of kids and programs that travel many hours for 1 game. The ECNL is like this supposedly represents the best players in our city. Development Academy is another of these in other cities. They can only play other ECNL or DA programs and the kids on these teams cannot be on other teams so they are limited. I think it’s a money making scam personally. Too many studies and research that shows the best players grew up playing close to home. Plus you can’t “train” your way to greatness, you learn by playing the game and you sustain longevity through a “Love” of the game. This damn sure doesn’t come from your parents forcing you to perform because they spent $5000 on a trip to Orlando and dad expects you to, in one game, earn an offer from Real Madrid.

So, you are saying the coaches cared a lot? What’s wrong with that? I’d be concerned if they COULDN’T care less.

Ah. My grammatical mistake...you’re indeed correct...the coaches COULDN’T care less.

Really depends on where you live. The best we have down here is that some clubs don’t focus on winning meaningless tournaments until the players have developed somewhat.

My son’s club is not like that.

In most “soccer cultures” like Brazil’s kids don’t even start playing on teams till 14. All street ball and small sided games like futsal.

I tried to organize free Pick-Up games for the kids as we have amazing facilities less than a mile from our house and couldn’t get much interest. Meanwhile a guy with exotic accent is charging $80 hour and he is completely filled up and hiring junior coaches.
I thought about going and getting a Mexican guy to stand there while the kids play pick up and shout at them. Tell parents he is esteemed coach from south of the border and charge them $50 an hour for the “lesson”. I guarantee you I’d be slammed in less than a month.

Edit: and $80 per hour isn’t even the most expensive. Some other guy charges $120 I think.
A. fricking. Racket.

what are you babbling about.

I was referring to the lack of Rec programs in small towns and how those areas use travel to let their kids play at all.

I was being complimentary of those small towns and their coaches that show up and compete because they have taken the time to develop those kids. They don’t get paid they don’t do anything but provide opportunities for kids to have fun playing baseball and sometimes they win big because they have the right players in the right position.

Not a fricking bit of this applies to me. It does convey what I see.

You see that is the difference; I see what happens at the rec leagues, school leagues and the different tourney leagues.

You don’t have a fricking clue, so take your little rehearsed diatribe elsewhere

maybe in Brazil, but not in Europe..my neighbor played professional soccer in England...he played competitive growing up and once he was identified as good...a club moved him out of his house to another city at 14 to focus on soccer 100%...school was taught by tutors, he belonged to the club

Another travel ball thread?

I’ll repeat the same thing I do in all the others. The only reason I coach my sons travel ball team is because no one else thinks he’s good enough to play SS, pitch, and bat lead off. Me and his mom know he is

Club volleyball parents can be pretty unbearable too. I say that as one, but sometimes during games I have to just watch from a far corner so I don’t have to listen to BS.

I’m realistic to know my kid ain’t playin college ball, she’s just trying to stay up with her high school peers. But some of these parents just swear their kid is going D1 and no one should question it.
