Not that easy in Louisiana.
Louisiana law is specific on which waterways can have casinos.
So unless the legislature is changing the law this year, then it is no dice for the Funroe Casino. Then the project also needs to get voted on by the Parish voters.
If you read the law, it looks like some bible thumpers in Alec and the bayou area wrote themselves out the law.
Also, which license is moving there, or is the state looking at increasing the limit of 15 riverboats through reforms.
I know this is off topic but I thought about this. All this talk of Harrahs expanding in New Orleans could be just a ploy to get the state to extend their exclusive contract beyond 2024 with some upfront pay off. I would say absolutely no to that and say, I think it’s time to open that market up to all qualified entities and let them build up a gaming district in New Orleans and let the market decide who wins. Of course not just any developer gets a license but follows a set of rules and minimum standards. Mississippi just did this after the failure of the margaritaville casino in Biloxi.

First things that came to mind. This article reads like fantasy.
quote:
First, the state has to designate the Ouachita River as a gambling waterway. Then, the state's gaming director has to issue a license to Monroe.
If all that passes, the voters will have a hand in the deal. In other words, the state requires a parish-wide vote.
Because these are easy tasks

Good luck on attracting large numbers of people with money in their pockets to the South side of Monroe. It has become one of the least desirable areas in the state.

Where in Monroe are they gonna find enough people that can count to 21?

No it was called Charlie T’s. It’s been many things since. It was across the street from what is now that big gas station.

No, the Ouachita River doesn't flow through the city limits, but it does flow through Monroe and West Monroe.
