Krewe of Red Bean is using local restaurants to provide food and snacks to 11 NOLA hospital and or ICU units. They are using unemployed musicians as delivery drivers and trying to help local restaurants stay afloat too. They are spending about 3500 a day on meals cookies and snacks.

I'm sick of this hand out culture we love in. Don't buy Food stamp eligible products! The layabouts are depending on you!

Am I the only one who doesn’t understand why we are supposed to donate our time and money to healthcare workers, who are all collecting a paycheck from employers who are still making money?
Like the sewing surgical masks for free, shite. Downvote away, but I’m a doctor and even I don’t think people should be guilted in to doing this stuff.
Then again, I’m also tired of posts from nurses talking about how they are risking their lives for the rest of us. Then again, it’s mostly women so the dramatic Facebook posts make sense

I put it on food board a few days ago got no traffic. I don’t don’t post a lot. I’m some people may like to donate I don’t know the people. I think people are just trying to help. The hospital workers could certainly be donating as well I guess.

I understand where you're coming from but it's like I was told in the Army 25+ years ago, "no one loves the warrior until the enemy's at the gate"

While I get what you are saying, they are standing in an environment not many would voluntarily stand in at this point. They are being compensated, but that doesn't exactly make it worth it.

In fairness, it looks more like you would be donating money to help support local restaurants, in this case.
I'm sure the medical staff isn't starving and this is just an upgrade in cuisine for them.

Why aren’t we going to Walmart to feed the stockers and cashiers?
The people I know in medicine are not currently seeing a massive influx of patients. Could be just my sample size. The workers at Walmart, Sams and others stores like that are keeping our economy turning. I believe they are the real unsung heroes in this.

Maybe you can make a list of top ten unsung heroes

Exactly.
Like we're supposed to feel bad for teachers, who are still getting paid. By us taxpayers.
Seriously, I do feel bad for the many who are unemployed now with no definitive future plans.
To say that the economy will magically come roaring back in two weeks is disingenuous. No one knows exactly when and how things will get back to normal

They get nothing until they can consistently keep Clorox wipes on the shelves!

These are among the only people that can fully work and collect paychecks GUARANTEED from the government.
What??? How does a musician relate to a delivery driver?

I agree with you and some employers are taking care of their people. Whole Food has stepped up big time adding extra pay and sick leave. Target is also helping their people. It’s hard to leave the hospital and get food and some my be staying there and sleeping in call rooms.

Are we seriously comparing healthcare work with a virus less deadly than flu(unless old AF or immunocompromised) with fighting a war?
Seriously, kicking in doors in Fallujah not knowing if gonna be blown up is not the same as Karen working at hospital.
I work in the Chemical industry. I don't constantly talk about how I could get blown up.

Right. But what IF they were getting paid? I think a decent chunk would go into that environment.

I would take chances with getting blown up before coronavirus.

No dunbass I am not comparing medical staff to warriors. I am saying some people are panicking and want to keep the professionals engaged and supported.
