No way you should do that until your kids are gone. That's just dumb

Just wait the extra 4 years when your younger kid graduates high school. That sounds miserable for them and extremely selfish on your part

Maybe I forgot to add they want to do it. If we don't like it we can always buy a house again. And if you retards grew up in a normal household I will just take my chances.

I do know peeps who have done it. Produces very well cultured kids that are like cats and will always land on their feet.
Downside, kids will develop some time of bug; travel bug (cant stop traveling) or escape bug (always getting fricked up).
Sounds like you got 8yrs to start the roadtrip to me. Whats 4 extra years checking it out? Its great Plan B if lil suzy starts mudsharking.

You have a solid point

I mean, this makes a ton of sense after spending so much time on the OT

It's my retirement plan as well. Minus the kids.

Maybe minus the SO...

Kids will be 10 and 14. Will be home schooled. As far as friends go, they can make friends on the road. Won't be traveling constantly. Will stay in places we like until we are ready to go to the next place. No different than being a military brat.

A guy at work and his wife are thinking of doing this. They want to sell their home and buy a camper and live at a RV park. He figures if can sell at 10% less than appraisal, he could pay off everything he owns and the camper and live pretty much debt free.

When I moved back after I retired from my job in California I lived in a 30 ft RV with slider for 2 months . I put it on my property at Toledo Bend while I built my house. That was roughing it.

We only lived in the RV whole building our house which meant our stuff was in storage.
That was a huge inconvenience for just two people.

The 14 yr old isn't a dude, right? If it is, he won't have his own room and will be left to spank his monkey all up in your living space. Living in a cramped space with a 14 yr old dude would be a nightmare.

Umm they're 10 & 14 so of course they know what's best for them.

Bet it sounds real cool-- for about a week until reality sets in.

Not to mention everyone having to share a tiny, tiny bathroom.

I job transferred 2.5hrs from home and I pretty much stay most of the week inside of my rv. I work in a power plant and it has it's own rv camp in it, which is all free for employees. If we are kid free for the weekend , then my wife comes up here. RV's require a lot of maintenance and attention, but it is nice not mowing the yard during the summer. Lol

My sister and brother in law just did this. They bought a new F250 and a camper and are traveling now.

I'm probably going to retire for good in 5 years and travel around in a 5th wheel while my wife picks up travel nursing assignments. I have a 5th wheel that we use a lot now. A few things to consider: getting insurance as a full timer is a pain in the arse, make sure to get an RV that is fully rated for full time. Several manufacturers void the warranty if you are FT. Also, if you sell your house, become a resident of North Dakota for RV purposes..its easy.
