Front load washer is extremely heavy? Holding water?

So my father in law is giving us a almost brand new front load set. I loathe front load washers but these are a nice pair and we need a new set so I'll take them for now. So I went to pick them up and the washer is insanely heavy. I don't know anything about front loads so I don't know if there's something that needs to be drained or what. Could there be or are front loads just really freaking heavy?

They are heavy. Get a dolly and move it. I agree, I own one and loath it. I will never buy another front load washer.

You can gently rock is back and forth and hear if there is water swishing around and, if so, you're probably going to want to drain it. You can use gravity for this. Keep the run off tube on there and lean the washer toward it and empty the water out. Then use a dolly to move it. Happened to my washer about 4 years ago.

My wife is extremely heavy too and I find her difficult to move, even with a dolly. I'm thinking she's retaining water,also.

They are very heavy. They use very little water, not likely to have much in it. If you maintain it as per the instructions your clothes will not smell. Get the manual.

There is a drain plug at the bottom, unlatch the door, drain the water. Problem solved mostly

I had a front loader from about 2006 until 2013 so basically a full life cycle. Leaving the door open would have been a pain where the unit was positioned. Anyway after about three years the rubber door gasket started showing mold that could not be removed. Clothes were musty.
New unit is a top loading HE unit. It's awesome and no mustiness.
