re: From 2010-2020, downtown Baton Rouge's population grew faster than Ascension Parish.

Only one I know of that's in the works is a reno and rebrand of the Holiday Inn Express by the 19th JDC:
Already? That just opened about 5 years ago. I was abandoned forever before that.

I've been meaning to make it to The Main Lobby, but for some reason, I keep simply not.
Anyone been there? I would be curious to hear about the vibe.
I went not too long after it opened. Loved the layout. Nice roof top patio, though not much of a view. Ate the sliders and they were very good.
Cocktails, however were awful. You can tell they are catering to the urban crowd because many the signature drinks are cogniac based and/or are very sweet. I like cogniac but the two cocktails I had were not good at all. I should give it another shot though to see if anything has changed.

Because there's literally no one there. It's like walking through a ghost town
How many neighborhoods in BR are filled with people on weeknights or after the bars close?

I’d like to see another hotel downtown. Preferably a Marriott branded property.
It isn’t the solution you’re hoping for, but I’m pretty sure I read the Belle is going to reopen its hotel.

It desperately needed it. Not that I ever stayed the night, but from what I could see, that was the cheapest, laziest renovation ever. Really glad that it sounds like the company taking it over is looking to make it a bit more of a destination spot, more like the Watermark (with a very different vibe, obviously).

Well that's unfortunate. Though if a cocktail menu is shite, pretty much everyone can make a passable old fashioned or gin and tonic

Punchers was hilarious, I’d forgotten about it
Posted on 6/1/22 at 9:50 pm to Sun God
Punchers always had that obese Lebanese bouncer that wore a sidearm on his belt and wore a makeshift Kevlar vest, circa 2012
Dude honestly thought he was a part of BRPD.

Did Perkins Rowe turn into a cesspool like the Mall?
Posted on 6/1/22 at 10:11 pm to Jack Bauer7
There was a sexual assault and kidnapping at the Perkins Rowe parking garage and gunfire erupted there a few months ago.

True but now there isn’t shite to do downtown after 5 unless you wanna hit up Happys or whatever bald eagle is now
Bald Eagle is doing very well. It's gone to a members club now with a controlled access door.
Very smart for security of patrons and employees now that Downtown Baton Rouge doesn't have many bars open til 2am. You can just ring the bell and they will let you in after checking you out on the camera posted above the door.
And if you're interested in becoming a regular, you can get a card to access the door during operating hours.

RIP Hound Dogs
Hound Dogs was a great place. It was gay-friendly but not a 'gay' bar. Nice blend there any given happy hour.

Bengal Tap Room Replaced Punchers. It's doing pretty well. They have better than average bar food and a regular crowd.

Downtown BR is safer than Perkins Rowe...by a LOT
Which was the greatest trick local government pulled on the taxpayers of GBR area.
Clean up downtown, prop up downtown. Put a fence around the North Blvd bridge where the homeless live.
Send those junkies out to the suburbs!
