Because this won’t stop with bars and smoking and we know it.

once again, you do not want to have a discussion

Smoking is legal

Sorry you don't like it

Lots of people also hate that alcohol is legal, but I damn well know that your opinion on that subject is polar opposite to this issue.

It is what it is. You asked for a link and I provided. I’m sure I could find more but I’m sure there would be reasons you wouldn’t except those as well.

Also, for the record if you havent deduced this yet, I don’t agree with smoking bans or any sweeping ban from the govt. but to act like second hand smoke is irrelevant and doesn’t kill is just naive.

Insults and strawman..

Nice argument.

Different issues and very different nuances to them.

I'm not arguing to have smoking made illegal totally. Just indoors.

you are correct

Alcohol deaths are a lot more immediate, but they are just as undiscerning

For the record, I think business owners have a responsibility on that front as well

Drunk driving is a tough issue to tackle. Forcing everyone to have a breathalyzer in their cars is a massive overreach of power and basically implies guilt until proven innocent.. and checkpoints are already abuse of power. But of course, as anyone would, I would love to cut down on drunk driving. I think self-driving cars will eventually largely take care of the problem for us.. but how to tackle the issue in the interim? Beats me.

but I have every right to roads without wild drunken drivers. Why should I have to avoid the roads because they are out there?

See how your argument works from another angle?

liver disease, heart disease, obesity, abuse, personality and mood changes, driving while intoxicated..... the list of ‘nuances’ goes on and on.

My argument applies differently because of the difference in situations. Yes, it means a difference in rights but the magnitude of the rights' change is very different. We're talking about a smoker taking a few steps outside to smoke vs forcing sober people to submit to checkpoints or breathalyzers.

Is that one and the same to you?

but banning smoking isn't?

We just have to deal with drunk drivers endangering innocent people, but we can't make people have to deal with smoking in bars they voluntarily patronize!

You're a special kind of stupid.
quote:

Yes. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. National Toxicology Program, the U.S. Surgeon General, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer have all classified secondhand smoke as a known human carcinogen (a cancer-causing agent) (1, 3, 5, 7).

Inhaling secondhand smoke causes lung cancer in nonsmoking adults (4, 5). Approximately 3,000 lung cancer deaths occur each year among adult nonsmokers in the United States as a result of exposure to secondhand smoke (2). The U.S. Surgeon General estimates that living with a smoker increases a nonsmoker’s chances of developing lung cancer by 20 to 30 percent (4)

But hey, you probably are more educated on it than the NIH.

Best thing that happened to New Orleans bars.

The 'freedom' argument is such bullshite. It's a fricking health risk. Same as making sure kitchens are safe for food.

Much of the food prepared in those kitchens is more of a health risk than secondhand smoke. What are we going to do about that??

As long as you don't burn me, IDGAF. Then again, I don't care about much. If I don't like the smell, I will just move. So much anger and animosity.
