Heard it was a bust in the ways of consumer satisfaction. As ridiculously popular and successful fests have become in NOLA post Katrina, one would think that the size of Lafayette square wouldn't even be on a short list to hold something like this on a weekend. Hell, it gets packed for Wednesdays in the Square and thats in the middle of the week.

I'm sure it was very colorful.

Perfect, tear down stonewall jacksons statue in the square, fried chicken afterwards.

I live downtown and was thinking of going. Took one look outside and said frick that as I saw the hordes of people heading to the square. Knew it was gonna be an absolute cluster.

There was basically an hour and a half wait for the line I was in (Willie Mae's Chicken) and they ran out of food when we got about 15 people from the front (and there was a lot of people waiting behind us). I didn't know it would take that long when we got in it. Numerous other vendors ran out of food earlier in the day.
The fried chicken festival needed much more fried chicken. The music was great, but I have to give the festival an F since the people couldn't get to the chicken. Extremely bad planning - they were cooking the chicken in such small batches that anyone could have forseen the issues. Every line was like a mile long.

Because white people don't like fried chicken?

Every non-hippy whitey I know loves fried chicken. Is Willie Mae's the best in LA? Who are the contenders?

They are supposed to be one of the best. Dooky Chase's chicken was recently named the best in a fried chicken taste contest. Mr. Ed's was in the final five too. And believe it or not, Popeyes still made the top 5. Some of the original ones in New Orleans make some awesome chicken. I love Popeyes personally, but thought the food snobs wouldn't vote for it with all the non-chain, local competition.

Went. Lines for food were about 1.5 hours for some. Venue was small. The vendors were not prepared for saints and hotlanta fans eating all of the fried chicken.

Maybe they'll get it lined out. It'd be my dad's dream come true to be able to sample all the best from the NO area at one time.

I'm sure they will work out the kinks. There was a lot of people. I'm not sure how they didn't expect that, but I think they were thinking mid-size crowds for some reason. Nope. It smelled damn good out there though.

I'm glad to see McHardy's was there. Their chicken is the shite.
