Coming from under the ice maker and leaking down front of Door. Door was shut. Everything that was in freezer is no longer frozen. The ice is melting. I turned off the ice maker and it's still been leaking. Any ideas? Does this repair sound expensive? TIA

Sounds like your refrigerator is broken.

Nothing to do with the ice maker

Possibly just a bad defrost timer. Sometimes they get hung up in defrost mode.

Your coils are probably iced over because your defroster died.

Or a bad thermistor, thermostat, temperature sensor or circuit board. Or your evaporator fan died or the compressor is fried or the defrost timer is stuck.

That's my best guess.

Is your compressor compressing?

agree with chucker...sounds like it is not cooling at all. the frozen stuff will keep the whole thing cool for a while, but eventually everything will be toast. If you have much in there, I would get some ice chests together to keep everything from spoiling.

Your fridge may need prostate surgery.

Empty the freezer stuff into an ice chest and remove the shelves & ice bin.

Unplug the fridge. Take out the back panel of the inside of the freezer out. If ice is all over behind the panel, get a chair, a hair dryer, a towel and a Bloody Mary.

Sit in chair, put the towel on the bottom, start melting the ice and drink your BM.

Even if your defrost heater has gone bad, you should get 4-7 days of cooling before it ices up again. That's long enough to get a new one from Amazon.

ETA: you may also want to clean the dust off the coils from the outside back of the fridge. You'll have to take off a few screws and remove the cover, then brush off whatever you find. Be careful not to bend the fan blades.

Take photos, report claim to fema.

Assuming you had no insurance and no responsibility for your own items they will give you a pocket of cash

First. Freezer has AIDS.

Second. This happened to me overnight and I thought unit was broken. Turned out drunk buddy didn't shut door all way night before and freezer won't run with door open. Slammed door and it started cooling immediately. Try that first.

Insurance claim? Water isolated to tile floor kitchen?

Fridge won't be covered but resulting damage will be if you have laminate/ wood flooring.

Mine did the same thing, and it was the condensation drain being frozen over.

It is a VERY EASY DYI fix.
