Virginia man charged with rape released due to Covid kills accuser

agreed, but freeing non-violent inmates might not be though. We have to reform our judicial system so that 2% of entire country isn’t behind bars.

My bad I just looked it up and shows closer to 1%, maybe it was Louisiana that I read was 2%. In any case that’s too many

Freeing inmates due to a virus never made any logical sense to begin with, especially when they’re arresting business owners and pastors for just trying to operate businesses and churches.

They need to for sure (although the other 98% breaks laws too), but our current jail system is nothing but criminal college. They go there then get dumped on the street with no help and knowing nothing other than what they learned behind bars which is how to commit crimes. What we need is a system of reform to make sure they can reintegrate into society and be productive members. Can it happen with everybody? No. But currently we aren’t even trying so it’s inevitable they get released and end up right behind bars.

That's not entirely true or accurate. Drug courts have come a long way, and are being implemented in many counties across the country. Marijuana has been decriminalized whether certain parts of society like it or not. Courts bend over backwards to help people avoid jail time for DUIs, and if you do what you have to do, you won't serve time. More and more efforts are being made at the juvenile level to help curb recidivism. Community-based programs designed to ease the transition from prison to the free world continue to be developed.
At some point you have to chalk it up to a lack of personal responsibility.

Some dude in ATL was a covid early release, fell asleep at Wendys, resisted arrest, stole a taser, took a bullet, assumed room temp, cronies rioted, burnt down Wendy and killed an 8 year old girl at Wendy/ Rayshard Lewis memorial site. If dude stayed locked up, world would be a better place and we’d have two more officers on the streets.
