I was in a frat at UGA. Waste of money and if it was the peak experience of your life then you need to just delete yourself because your life sounds terrible. Try again kiddo.

Speaking of buying friends Cuckbread, how is your wife’s boyfriend doing? It’s pretty cool of him to let you post here this morning, usually the Omega Psi Phis are pretty hard about that shite.

So, CF, what was it that made Greek Life such a terrible experience for you? Care to explain?
Personally, I made some life long friendships - guys I can count on for ANYTHING. And I'm still close to them, and it's been 30 years. As far as the "wasting money" thing - the connections I have made have returned my dues probably tenfold (admittedly, I was in a really small chapter with relatively cheap dues). One brother has helped me with legal issues, free of charge. Others have given of their time without question or expectation of any return...I could ask them for money, help, the shirt off their backs - and I'd get it. I'm not sure how you can put a price on that. If I really just "bought" them, they should have left long ago, but they're still here. Just a phone call or text away.
As others have stated, I just don't get why some enter frat topics and consistently shat all over the system. If it's not for you, great. But YOUR experience doesn't negate the majority that would say it was a worthwhile experience.

FWIW, I'll give the man a chance to explain. At least he has some experience in the system. To me, his opinion holds more weight than those that never went through rush, joined / lived it yet still crap on it. Some naysayers think all Greek Life is Animal House.

he's definitely in the minority, my experience is similar to yours except it's been longer since we left LSU, we all qualify for Medicare
ETA: Some naysayers think all Greek Life is Animal House.
welll, we did have our fair share of that too

Well, I went to UNO...my entire chapter was about 1/5th the size of my daughters' (ZTA - LSU) pledge class

we averaged about 175 actives/year when I was at LSU, my sister was a ZTA at LSU, she got me a gig as a houseboy there, one of the best kept secrets in the entire Greek system

I joined one and I was only active for a bit when our chapter got kicked off campus for: Guess for what? Hazing. Actually from our pledge class. And an active is who ratted the chapter out. Go figure. However, everyone remained pretty tight and honestly, 30 years later, some of my closest friends are former fraternity brothers. So, the whole concept of rent a friends is kinda bullshite imo. My thoughts is joining a fraternity is joining a bunch of dudes that have some similar interests and come together socially while in school and you have to pay some dues each month.

Old man / tangent time...I love the gray slate floors in the ZTA house. That's a beautiful old house.

If it were 1985, I would say go for it. Today, no way. Political correctness has neutered everything great about greek life.
fricking camera phones and instagram/tiktok. I was there in the very infancy of cell phone cameras and you had to have a seperate digital camera to upload images to facebook. I would be terrified to be greek with the constant 24 hour documentation going on now.

Kappa Sigma is the only fraternity worth joining

Lots of good points here, I’ll add one that I got out of my experience.
Diversity of friends. When I got out of high school, all my friends were people I played sports with. We were friends since childhood, same interest, same hobbies, etc. I pledged with guys from 3-4 different states & all over La. It was cool and very different than the small town I grew up in.
Definitely something you could do without a frat but much easier with.
The alumni group also beneficial post graduation. I work for a family business, so didn’t need a job. But to have a large group of successful people always willing to give advice/help makes a difference.
