More like 40 miles. If the margin of error is that big, they need to stop representing the track with a line and just provide a 50-mile wide path.

I'm sure this has been pointed out to you already, but I'll say this anyway.

They do that already, you moron! What do you think the big fricking cone represents?

The biggest issue facing the entire NWS, whether it is the NHC, SPC, WPC, whatever associated group you can think of, is a general public that is increasingly apathetic and, from evidence provided every single day, is getting dumber by the hour. That attitude is why we have people tracking a two hundred mile wide hurricane by fricking street level two days out from landfall as if it matters that the center doesn't go over your fricking house, but instead tracks over a neighborhood three miles to the east. That is dumb and pointless because it makes very little difference in regards to impacts. People did that with Hurricane Ian south of Tampa. They looked at the fricking centerline and nothing else and assumed they were okay. Guess what? They had to swim out of their fricking houses, then went on the damn news talking about how they were caught off guard and the fricking storm surge "came without warning".

shite......people are stupid.

What’s the big hoopla about the landfall? Track was still in between NOLA and BR, and no one was completely spot on.

The NHC has gotten pretty damn good with the tracks.

this is the advisory about 48 hrs prior to landfall.

half the eye was nearly out their cone during much of the actual landfall track. If this is the standard they want to set and pound the table like brian kelly saying it was good enough. So be it. I think differently. They aren't professionals if they can sit there and adjust tracks and just have unlimited 200 mile margin of erros constantly from (the center of the eye) that extends well outside their cone margin if you think about it that way. 48 hrs in advance, they have texas in the cone and this shite went up i-55 into st tammany parish.

radar pic of eye about at least half way outside the cone.

By that you mean the majority of the eye was within the track.

So the eye of the storm was within the track.

Storm conditions are not limited to the cone of doom.

I’m sure somebody asks this every few pages but I went back a few and didn’t see anything.

Anybody got leads on gas pumps that are up and running? Running out of generator juice here soon and everything around me is shut down (I’ve run the stretch between bluebonnet/highland and Prairieville). Further west stuff up and running?

at least half the eye is outside the cone from the 48 hr forecast. it was worse than i thought. It wasn't their best 48 hr advisory at all.

So now the eye was half in a projection 48hrs out and you think it is shite?

Literally saying they had the eye within their projection.

The cone isn't a hotter/colder cone. They do not say the edge has less chance than the middle.

if half the eye is outside their cone of 48 hrs. then it was a "technical" miss since the supporters are loving to be technical about them "not missing". it wasn't their best work. period.

Spending some time in these threads makes me understand why they have to remind people not to run generators inside every hurricane.

“It wasn’t their best work”

Maybe not, but that would suggest their body of work is pretty fricking good considering how well they tracked this one
