Any jog west and you’re canceling school with no notice while people prepare/leave the day before landfall. Calcasieu isn’t in a position to take any chances after the severe weather incident in April.

Both of those slides have what seems like massive contradictions to those of us who are uninformed. Does any of that shite make sense?

It would probably better if schools are open so people can take off and get their storm prep done without having to take care of their kids.
eta: I understand low lying coastal parishes like Vermillion cancelling early, but seems like Lafayette cancelling on Tuesday is excessive.

I was just thinking that I'd get way more done at home if the kids were at school

I don’t work in the schools but I’d imagine that the people who do have their own shite to take care of.

And non-essential retail and services will make their people stay until the last minute

That's a good counter point.

The first one appears to show the jet stream helping it develop - up until landfall - then it shears off top and weakens at landfall. Basically the jet won’t destroy it while at sea until it gets to land.
Second one says by sucking in dry air it sets up higher tornado chances.

I mean seems reasonable to me. What are they suppose to do force kids into school on the day of then cancel? People need time to prepare.

Now that is a friendly observation!
I can buy into this line of reasoning for the coastal parishes. However, I have a feeling the dominos will start falling and EBR will soon be copying the coastal parishes and cancelling classes from Tuesday thru Friday....you know, out of an abundance of caution and all.

i had people looking at me like i was crazy on Saturday when i said a hurricane might be coming.
I don't understand how people can live on the gulf coast and not be generally aware of the tropics but seems like a lot of people had no idea.
A lot of people got shite to do, teachers included, to prep for a storm. Makes sense to be over cautions
