Also, I think it’s pretty widely accepted that Zodiac killed Bates. Someone should send the memo to the Riverside cops…
No it’s not, it’s the opposite actually.
Riverside has confirmed the DNA of the letter writer, and also confirmed he didn’t kill Bates.
quote:
In August 2021, Riverside Police Department's Homicide Cold Case Unit published an update regarding the handwritten correspondence, stating that the author of the letters claiming responsibility for Bates's murder had been identified via DNA analysis in 2020, and has admitted writing the correspondence. According to the update, the author of the correspondence had initially—and anonymously—contacted investigators in 2016, explaining the correspondence had been a distasteful hoax. This individual has expressed remorse and apologized for the hoax, explaining that he had been a troubled teenager at the time, and that he had written and mailed the letters as a means of seeking attention.
And just so we know, the Kathleen John’s “kill ride”, is bullshite too.
Here’s the link to the Riverside PD report on this issue.

Interesting. I hadn’t read about that, thanks!
And now something really stinks. The “press release” linked on page 2 lists the typed letter as evidence of a link to Zodiac, yet Riverside PD says they’ve identified and eliminated the author both as a suspect in the Bates murder and of being Zodiac.

Have the cops said they're right yet? If no cops, I don't care.

I think this is the same group that says they've solved the DB Cooper mystery
Yep. And they didn't.
I literally just went down that rabbit hole. After searching for info on their Zodiac claim, one of the interviews I came across discussed how they had solved the DB Cooper mystery, which made me go rent their documentary from the History Channel on YT "DB Cooper: Case Solved?." It was a nothing burger. Three hours of interesting circumstantial coincidences, but at the end, the eye-witness stewardess who gave the FBI the composite sketch straight up said the Case Breakers suspect was not the man she interacted with for 5 hours.
I'm not saying they aren't right about the Zodiac claim, but the DB Cooper claim was an embarrassing swing-&-miss nationally. They'll have to have serious evidence before they convince me to rent another of the Case Breakers' History Specials.

It’s not, both the 340 cipher and the 408 cipher were solved and verified over the last two years. By other people.

I’ll go out on a limb and say this is straight up bullshite. The fact that they have a history of false claims tells me all I need to know. It would’ve been way too easy to have SFPD compare the DNA profile they pulled for the stamps of the Zodiac letters to this guy’s before they came out with a press release prematurely declaring that the case was solved.
On top of that, when I see they’re using the letter from the Bates case as a link to the Zodiac, after that letter has apparently been proven to not have been written by Zodiac, it’s near impossible to take them seriously.

How convenient... They “claim” they found the killer who happens to be dead.

I agree, Geauxld. I'm leaning BS as well.
I'm not gonna lie tho, the team of (36) veteran ex-FBI agents/forensic crime-solvers that the Case Breakers named & had on the DB Cooper case was impressive, but the Case Breakers' leaders are just two former local news investigative reporters (say like NOLA's Lee Zurik) who jump to conclusions and confront suspects with cameras, unlike an FBI agent would.
And I've already read about a coincidence in this Zodiac article of Poste being in the area just 15 mins away from the Bates murder that I'm sure is taken as concrete evidence of murder by the Case Breakers. It's all very amateur sleuthing considering how credible the rest of the team's resume' looks.

Most of the high-profile unsolved mysterIes like Jack the Ripper, JFK Asassination, DB Cooper, Zodiac, etc. have a list of suspects that each story could convince you that suspect could have done it.
But until there is real tangible evidence (DNA, weapon, video, etc) I don't think they'll ever be solved, unlike how stacked circumstantial evidence cases produce guilty verdicts routinely.
A couple of years ago, the Jack the Ripper case was proclaimed to be solved with DNA from sperm on a victims scarf pointing to the least compelling & most obvious of the suspects (the insane asylum patient), but that result has come into question recently.

Someone could easily copycat this crime spree and get away with it in present day California. More weirdos and psychos than you can shake a stick at, and people are either high, or all walking around with their head up their arse.

There’s no credible reason to think anyone other than LHO shot JFK.

Night Stalker or Original Night Stalker? Original Night Stalker was in California in the 70s and 80s and they caught him 40 years later. Night Stalker was in California in the 80s and they caught him pretty quickly.
