Oh this is a solid one: I’m 24 weeks pregnant. Boost now due to new spike, or wait until third trimester?
And one of the responses:
So you got boosted two months or less ago, and you’re still panicking about needing another booster, while you’re also pregnant.
“There’s no wrong way to use it! You can double or triple stack em!”
quote:
What would you do? My last booster was Novavax in October. I will also be asking for Novavax this time. My last (and only known) infection was May 2023 and it was brutal.
My OB recommends waiting until third trimester for the extra booster, but I’m getting anxious watching the wastewater climb quickly in our city.
And one of the responses:
quote:
I’m in a similar situation. I’m 22 weeks now and I got my booster 10/2023 and then again 4/2024. I’m aware of the reasoning to wait til the 3rd tri— I get that to give baby immunity I should have waited.
But I’m a teacher and I’m exposed to so many unmasked people everyday. And six months after my last shot I was basically without vaccine protection. I was more concerned about getting Covid at this point in pregnancy and the damage it could cause.
I was not able to find novavax in my area. Most places have run out or their doses are expired and they’re not ordering more.
Maybe I’ll be able to get another dose before baby is born? I don’t know. But I do not regret getting the shot when I did.

I went out for a drive today; it was a beautiful day, by all accounts it should have made me happy (or at least not made me sad), but it's just a reminder of how I'm living in a completely different reality than 99% of the population.
Shouldn't that tell you something about the... lack of reality that your reality is?
That person is a real life version of the Principal Skinner meme.

How do you navigate your kids’ social lives?
And here are some comments from parents that should all be in fricking jail:
quote:
Started homeschooling our kids in 2020 as a temporary measure. We were holding out for better safety measures, but quite discouraged. This has gone on for a large percentage of their childhoods at this point. We’re still homeschooling, and our covid-safe social circle is ever shrinking. Struggling lately with what to do regarding their social development vs. health. I’d love to hear your perspectives!
And here are some comments from parents that should all be in fricking jail:
quote:
Masking in a good fit tested mask is key for your child. Also, if you're wanting safer playdates, think of the swiss cheese model. So outdoor is safer than indoor. With everyone masking is safer (so looking for still coviding groups in your community. I've found facebook groups for my area but depends where you are). Making sure your kid is vaccinated and promoting the vaccine in moms groups. If indoors then air purification, ventilation, and masks. I usually have extras in kid size and make it a part of coming into my home (although during surges we only do outdoor activities). If going to a place I look for least risk time of day to go to avoid crowds as well as inquire about mitigation practices. Outdoor places like botanical gardens or outdoor museum spaces are wonderful for kids. Lastly, looking for homeschooling social groups that are aimed for medically at risk kiddos (though we know EVERYONE is at risk) have higher chance of masking. They are rare but I understand they might exsist, or you might consider starting a still coviding homeschool group and see who joins.
quote:
We are also homeschooling and both kiddos are doing outdoor soccer 2-3 x a week and (starting this year) outdoor forest school 2 x a week. They are 6 (almost 7) and 4 (5 in February). It’s a constant struggle, especially since my husband got P.A. post first Covid infection in August 2022. So he’s immune compromised and kids are at risk of developing it as well.
quote:
We do online learning with my daughter. She has classes online with her teacher and classmates 3 times a day, then outside of that she works on her assignments (which don't take very long) and then she has free time for the rest of the day where she often goes on video chats with her friend group from class, where they talk and play some video games together. She also has some close "besties" that she will do more personal video calls with when they have time. In our city, we also have another family (my daughter's best friend) who we will do playdates with in-person, at either outdoor locations or indoor activities, and we both follow the same safety precautions for covid, so the girls wear their N95 masks and then go off and do whatever pre-teen girls are doing these days! They both understand why they are wearing a mask (we're both immunocompromised families) and because it has become habit at this point, they often forget they're even wearing masks while hanging out (it doesn't seem to be negatively impacting them in the slightest) and it doesn't slow them down from running and playing either.

LINK - BBC - Two In One Jab!
Trust the science and get your new jab, OML!
This sort of reads like a Bee article. I can't tell anymore.
quote:
Drug company Moderna says its combined flu and Covid vaccine, which targets the two diseases in a single shot, has passed a vital part of final-stage scientific checks.
The phase-three trial shows the vaccine arms the body with protective antibodies.
And it does so as effectively as separate flu and Covid shots, results suggest.
Fewer injections would be more convenient and simpler, Moderna says.
Chief executive Stephane Bancel told BBC News he hoped the messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccine could be made widely available in 2026 - or perhaps, 2025.
"We are very delighted about the results, because it’s the first time in the world that a company is able to show positive phase-three results combining in a single dose flu and Covid vaccine," he said.
"You get one dose, one needle," which meant "ease and peace of mind for the consumer".
Competitors Pfizer and BioNTech are testing a similar two-in-one mRNA vaccine against flu and Covid.
Scientists hope mRNA vaccines will be faster to make and update than the current ones used against flu, and be a better match for ever-changing strains.
In the continuing Moderna trial, the mRNA-1083 jab produced a higher immune response than the licensed comparator vaccines.
It matched or bettered currently approved flu jabs, including high-dose ones designed for older people.
And it was better than Moderna’s existing Covid booster, Spikevax, at making the body produce disease-fighting antibodies – probably because it had been designed to fight more recent variants circulating around the world, Mr Bancel told BBC News in an interview.

This is what Covid was all about. The Covidians were and are scared, mentally-ill losers. The pandemic was their way of making sure everyone else felt exactly as they did. These people are rotten to the core and would literally rather live in some warped version of Raymond Cocteau's dystopia than the natural world.

400 likes for a Reddit post is actually a lot. I rarely have gotten more than about 50 for my posts.
It is a small group with 17,000 members though. That can be called small but devoted.

Husband and I just tested positive for first time
So you just ruined your life for four and a half years and your husband gets the snivels and you get nothing, and you’re still freaking out on what may happen to you and think that you’ve sinned?
You’ve been conned you fricking idiot! Sweet Christ! I remember very much wanting Howard Stern to get Covid and for it to be light cold just for him to realize that he lit his life, career, and legacy on fire for no reason, but no self reflection from him either.
I think I’ve been exposed. I’m so anxious and stressed.
Do you think anyone acted like this in 1940s London, Berlin, Warsaw, or Moscow where they really had some shite to worry about? I’m pretty sure none of this is related to Covid and more you being a batshit insane lunatic afraid of your own shadow causing panic attacks thinking you’re always going to die at any second.
But according to the ZeroCovidCommunity this is a healthy life to have, and don’t you dare contradict her despite her life going full Requiem for a Dream.
In pretty desperate need of some advice
A) Your parents are lying to you about getting boosted.
B) Finally you’ve come to the conclusion that your mitigation efforts are going to kill you long before Covid will and fortunately you have a loving family trying to help you here. What you’re doing now isn’t living but simply surviving.
So she has to go back to her zany cult to talk her out of common sense. I would feel bad for this person, but I’m pretty sure that she would want me fired and starved for not getting boosted.

Despite avoiding indoor stuff and masking whenever indoors, we are both positive. I'm so upset and freaked out. His symptoms are very very mild. I have none yet.
Questions: Do we still isolate from one another in the house for the next 7 to 10 days?
Do we wear masks 24/7 in the house even with all windows open?
Should we take paxlovid to avoid long covid?
Thanks for being here. I feel so defeated. Our world has become so small because of covid. So many things we've missed out on firv4.5 years only to end up with this shite anyway.

I moved and needed help from my family. My dad refused to mask and sounded sick. I had a kn95, but it was stapled. I used Xclear nasal spray after, but I don’t have my nasal sinus rinse. I’m so worried. I already have trigeminal neuralgia and chronic pain and fatigue from covid he gave me which he never apologized for and lost most of my hair. He just doesn’t care that I have freaking nerve damage now. I’ve had it twice in the past six months with masking. I had bad vertigo for months. I generally thought I was gonna die. Is there anything I can do? When should I test? I’m so scared it’s gonna be hard to breathe again since I’m alone now, but my parents didn’t care when I was gasping for air at home. Sorry I’m just so worried. My medical ptsd has been so bad lately with my chronic sore throat and pain pushing into my thyroid where it feels like my throat is gonna close up, and my ENT won’t do a scope and I can’t get a endocrinologist referral. I don’t even think my insurance will cover paxlovid a second time this year. Somehow I have to get unpacked and get so much done. Ugh I never wanna leave my house again. I lost some vision from my last infection too. I have to go to the doctor’s again this week because I’ve been putting off getting me ear pain checked. I wanna scream.

So last night my parents showed up unannounced at my apartment and basically tried to stage an intervention. Apparently, my continued COVID concern has them worried about me, and they think that I'm purposely letting my life slip away by trying to avoid reinfection. The thing is, I don't even disagree - trying to stay safe has me absolutely miserable, but I can't really do anything about that when the world at large has given up on public health as a concept.
They want me to stop seeing my COVID-conscious therapist, because they think it's "enabling" me, and they confirmed that they won't be masking or taking any mitigations besides booster shots and outdoor dining when possible in order to make me feel safer/more comfortable participating in things with them.
What the frick do I do? I'm absolutely 100% going to lose EVERYTHING that gives my life meaning if I stay at my current level of precaution with no end in sight. Maybe I'm just weak-willed or something, but I kind of have to draw my line in the sand if the choice comes between maintaining my current level of mitigations and losing every valuable connection in my life one by one. I can't end every relationship I have and start over from scratch - I can guarantee that will kill me before COVID even has a chance to.
I wish I could un-know everything I've learned. This isn't sustainable. My partner is on my side, but I can't in good conscience demand that he never go to a friend's house again or visit his family. I'm trapped - my only choices are between total isolation and infection. Please help...
