I felt this one.
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Four people have been rushed to a hospital after being exposed to ammonia at the Formosa Plastics facility in Baton Rouge, officials say.
The incident happened Tuesday night, October 8.
According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, a cylinder at the facility was compromised. Officials stressed that there was not a release from the facility, and there is no danger to the public.
According to emergency officials, two of the victims are in critical condition.

a long time ago in the 60's. us kids were messing around uncle's farm storage tank of ammonia. I got dared to wiff it and took a shot up the nose. It really messed me up, put me on my arse, blew the oxygen out of my lungs and flopped on the dirt.
ammonia is at the top of the list as a killer

Saunson69 will be using this as another reason to block the St Rose ammonia plant

Washing a car at my grandparents there was a bottle and I didn't know what it was. Took a big sniff and it was ammonia based. I didnt pass out but my sinuses burned for awhile after. I will sneak up on sniffing a bottle now. Unless it's a good bourbon then I'm in.

"Officials stressed that there was not a release from the facility"
If a cylinder at the facility was compromised, there was a release.

They got that gas proof chain link like most plants do.
Less than 5 gallons, didn't leave the site.

If you left a propane tank open in your yard, did you house have gas leak?

Public service announcement: when plants say "no release" they mean the leak/spill was contained within the plant

They are saying a cylinder (bottle) leaked, that is not a facility leak.

Getting out in front of the lawsuits from the upstanding citizens in the area

That is the exact same thing, after all.

Back in the olden days I worked in a university chemistry lab supply dept. ;We had a mop lady knock over a liter of ether and it broke on floor. She was trying to mop it up. I had to drag her out. She was ok.
We just closed the door and let it air out thru the vents. nbd.

I once dated a girl that had no sense of smell. No one knew until she was 6 or 7 years old, and her mother caught her sniffing the ammonia bottle under the kitchen sink.
The ammonia sensation was the closest thing to a scent she had ever experienced.
For some reason letting one rip in front of her would piss her off, even though she couldn’t smell, but she was oblivious to the silent, but violent, farts.

Yep, and the chlorine “release” confined to the plant (lol) means we can’t leave buildings, our cars need to be washed in the way out, and we’ll only have intermittent breathing problems.
But, in typical black humor fashion, as long as it wasn’t fluorine or anhydrous HF, how bad can it be?
