Five police officers and three attorneys claimed that Doug Dendinger committed battery when he served notice of a lawsuit on one of the cops back in 2012. Dendinger, also charged with witness intimidation and obstruction of justice, could have spent decades in prison if convicted because of his prior criminal record.

"Had they had their way, I'd be in prison for the rest of my life," Dendinger said.

Now the tables have been turned. Dendinger is no longer a defendant; the criminal charges against him were dropped by the state attorney general's office.

But two of the lawyers who accused him, ex-prosecutors Leigh Anne Wall and Julie Knight, along with their former boss, then-District Attorney Walter Reed, are defendants in a federal lawsuit filed by Dendinger. Earlier this month, federal Judge Ginger Berrigan denied motions to dismiss the three from the suit.

In her statement to deputies, contained in a police report, Knight stated, "We could hear the slap as he hit Cassard's chest with an envelope of papers…This was done in a manner to threaten and intimidate everyone involved."

The ex-Bogalusa police officer who was served, Chad Cassard, told deputies that Dendinger "slapped me in the chest."

It was overwhelming evidence on paper, but Dendinger had one small but powerful piece of proof in his favor. At the last minute, Dendinger had asked his wife to videotape the envelope hand-off with her cell phone. He said he merely wanted to prove he completed the task so he could collect his $50 fee.

The grainy snippet showed what Dendinger claimed all along, that he merely handed Cassard an envelope, never even touching him.

Dendinger also filed complaints against with the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board against Reed, Wall and Knight. Charles Plattsmier, chief deputy counsel, said in a June 29 letter to Dendinger, that the investigation had been completed with no "clear or convincing evidence'' that the rules of professional conduct had been violated.

You have to wonder what it takes for a prosecutor to get disciplined. The famous Edwin Edwards quote comes to mind.

My manhood wouldn't let me say anything like this.

Slapped him in the chest with papers. Did it sting his tits and make his tampon fall out of his vagina?

Federal civil lawsuit. But I would hope it turns into a federal criminal case down the road. This was a flat out conspiracy involving many branches of govt.

Good. I've been wondering whatever happened with this case. At least it appears to be marginally positive for Dendinger.

I don't know how that isn't a clear case of lying. The prosecutors lied on an official document. They should have been disciplined.

Knight had to resign from her post up there. She should be facing charges

The only people I could see doing something would be the US Attorney's office in New Orleans. I doubt anything will come of this from the State side. They investigated themselves and found they did nothing wrong. Hell the LA attorney disciplinary board found the ADA's did nothing wrong. That tells me all I need to know abt what will happen there.

Useless ODC. They'll come down on a solo for minor shite, and god knows they aren't bashful about investigating public defenders, but against prosecutors they suddenly never find problems.

Prosecutors rarely ever face any internal discipline for even the most egregious infractions. the LADB won't touch prosecutors. So this doesn't surprise me, and it doesn't meant they are innocent, either. This guy still has his lawsuit going.

I remember when this first broke, every single person who lied and tried to get this man in jail should do at minimum one year in prison.

Sounds like he is lucky the cop didn't shoot him for assaulting a police officer. Contempt of cop (as subjectively viewed by said cop) is a dangerous crime.

NOPE. Here is what is going to happen and it pisses me off to no end.

Realizing they are busted as frick. The Parish will make a generous cash offer to this guy, who not being stupid will take it, and there will be a non-disclosure agreement signed by all parties. The case will disappear from everyone's minds and the taxpayers will hardly notice that THEY are the ones who just got fricked.

All five officers and three attorneys should see the inside of a jail cell for a period of time.

I don't understand why they take the money. Watching these guys testify on the stand would destroy their careers and reputations. I would be out for blood. Get it all on the record for all to see.

Things like this does not help the meme of "We are hard working cops out to protect the public."
