All social media posts can be considered attention whoring to some extent. People are looking to illicit likes and comments. I remember some comedian saying he was going to delete all his social media accounts and just hire a service that calls him 5 times a day and says "You are not alone". It's the overreaction by people that I don't understand. Feely isn't trying to make some grand social statement, he's making an old joke that is kind of awkward and the wingnuts are trying to turn it into something political.

Goodness gracious, the whole "I'll be here cleaning this gun" saying has been around forever for boys taking daughters out. This was most definitely a joke that was playing off that.
