One-time Jefferson Parish political wunderkind Chris Roberts, who served more than two decades on the Jefferson Parish School Board and Jefferson Parish Council before resigning last year just as he was about to be indicted on federal fraud and tax evasion charges, died Wednesday night "after a long battle with depression," according to a statement from his family.
The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into Roberts' death, which an agency spokesman described as an apparent suicide. The spokesman declined to elaborate.
A law enforcement source with knowledge of the situation said Roberts’ parents had reported him missing to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office earlier Wednesday. The Sheriff’s Office tracked his cellphone to a wooded area in Plaquemines, near the Jefferson Parish line, and found his body there.

Wow, what an amazing fall from grace. This guy was the next big thing hot too long ago. But screw his corrupt arse.

Definitely a con man. Kaare Johnson told some stories of his shenanigans a couple years ago. Not really a surprise.

Never held a private sector job in his life.

He tried to get on that Monsanto lawsuit once that guy in California was awarded something like $270 million.

If I am not mistaken, his main business, other than the grass cutting thing, was owning a snowball stand.

I feel bad for his family. But I'm usually suspicious of people who get elected to significant office while very young. It's better to get your career and personal life started, then enter public service when you're on your 40s or 50 when you have more life experience.

I read that he also owned a Baskin-Robbins franchise.

He did own the Baskin Robbins on Terry Pkwy. Also used to own a Quiznos. Recently he’s tried getting into photography and a T-shirt company. Sucks for his kids. Had 2 or 3 kids in middle to high school and another who I don’t think is even 2 yet.

His parents live around the corner from me. Lately I have seen him in the driveway talking to his dad. Maybe as recently as this past weekend.
I think the area where they found him is right outside my neighborhood.

He was a flawed man who made a cowardly decision, but I'm not convinced the people who made his last few years on earth miserable are any better.
I'm sure you can read their take on the matter in the NOLA.com comment sections, since that seems to be where most of their taxpayer-funded "heroics" are perpetrated.
