You got marks and regular continentals in the photos. I wish they would bring the mark back

If we're being honest with ourselves. The '18 Ford Taurus isn't a good looking vehicle (Both exterior & interior). It's extremely bland.

All of this effort wasted when they could have probably just kept the Town Car around another decade.

There are people that restore the last gen towncars because the market is so heavy

That and the Deville.

One of my parents' neighbors downsized from a late '90s Mercury Grand Marquise that looked pretty good in white (with a lovely blue interior) to a beige Hyundai Elantra (a 2005, maybe 2006 model). He mostly did it because he was old and realized that the Elantra was easier for him to park. It was a good choice for him.

His wife by then had sadly passed away from Alzheimer's but she had never liked the Mercury because she thought it was too big--she preferred their previous Honda Accord (a late '80s model, I think).

I remember those 80's and 90's Taurus models. Beautiful grey plastic interiors with fabric that looked like the lining of a casket.

They did share the same platform, but they had the same crappy air bag suspension as the Town Car. It was expensive as hell to fix.

My mom had TWO of those ugly things. Had one and when it was done, got a new one that was equally as ugly.

I believe this was the fastest V-4 ever made until Ford had to screw with the engine and beefed it up to a V-12 Supercharged Taurus.

That'll leave the Grand Marquis as the only rolling sofa option for old people.

Dude they ended Grand Marquis production like 6 or 7 years ago. There's nothing left for us gentlemen to drive. No Town Cars, DTS's, nothing. Nothing with a sweet V8, a front bench seat and a column shifter.

These are sad times we're in.

Those early 60's Continentals are so damn cool. Love the black convertibles with suicide doors and whitewall tires.

Ford just needs to ax Lincoln like they did Mercury. Outside of exclusive luxury/sports (Bentley/Lambo) its probably the brand I see the least of on the streets. I can't see that division being highly profitable for Ford.

I'm not going to lament the demise of the Continental. It's been back for a year after a 15 year hiatus, they'll breathe life into it again. Hopefully with a better design than those shitty doorhandles.

The entire Mercury brand was canceled 10 years ago.

If you want a rear wheel drive barge, the 300 Chrysler is the only option. It's a decent car, but in Chrysler's quest to make a 300 sedan that can actually turn, they couldn't make it floaty and soft like a Marquis or Lincoln Town Car.

The Buick LaCrosse is a great front drive full sized sedan. It and the Toyota Avalon are excellent highway vehicles. Neither are as much of a sofa on wheels as the Marquis though. The Chevy Impala is also an excellent full sized car, but not as fancy as the Buick or Chrysler.

If you want a sports sedan, Cadillac and the Germans still sell plenty of them. They aren't really land yachts anymore like the 1980s Mercedes SEL, Cadillac DeVille, and Buick Roadmaster. Both Mercedes and Cadillac are doing a pretty good job chasing BMW today, and they have also invested a lot in SUVs.

Sounds crazy, but China accounts for most Buick and Lincoln sales today. They have influenced the styling direction of both cars. They actually want their American cars to have lots of chrome and drive like boats. I thought for sure that China would justify the existence of the Continental for another generation.
