Who buys a gas powered 3/4 or 1 ton over a diesel?
I bought a 3/4 ton big hemi. Use it to tow the jeep. It's got sway bar release and lockers in case I need to recover the jeep.

I'm surprised they use different driveshafts for fairly similar trucks. I know the diesels produce more torque, but the EPA doesn't rate fuel economy for vehicles that big so it doesn't impact Ford's CAFE averages. I can see how saving a few pounds could help produce a higher payload number though.
Oh...and obligatory vehicle meme since is the OT and we need to be light hearted:

Congrats to your mechanic!

The only ones I've seen are truck camper owners. All about that payload.
I don't get it.
1 ton diesel checking in.
You know I've got a small penis.

Most Fords are too. They just offered the big v8 gas option with the current body style.
Should be a decent engine, although there have been some teething issues and parts shortages. Probably one of my favorite truck engines right now.
The 6.6L gas Chevy/GMC is also very good if the 6.2L is too small for you. No cylinder deactivation, and decent fuel economy by big gas truck standards. The HEMI's in the HD Ram trucks now have cylinder deactivation, so that's a no-go for me.

Knock on wood I've had good luck with mine. Pull 24 ft stock trailers and 7 bale round bale carriers. Love the power.
Dont jinx me

aluminum drive shafts.
Why would anyone think this was a good idea in something designed to haul heavy loads.
Aluminum is fine, it's just some bad design in these cases. I have hauled all kinds of things, sometimes exceeding the ratings of the truck with my 2006 Chevy 2500hd. It has a rear aluminum drive shaft, never had any issues other than u-joints from general wear and tear. No major repairs for anything on the truck overall either and it's at 220k miles.

And with the 10 speed transmissions gas engines in HD trucks makes more sense than ever before. I had a Ford with a 6.2 gas, 6 speed and 4.30 gears and it still got 16/17 mpg. 10 years ago a truck like that would struggle to hit 10mpg.
A gas burner with highway gears and a 10 speed??? Yes please.

I'm a Ford guy (as is basically a majority of the people I see on the road around here). But I like GM trucks, and might would even get a Ram if the circumstances were right. So no hate on the others. I like the GM 3/4 tons but the Ford diesel 3/4 - full tons are just perfect in my opinion. But to each their own. I'm not going to pretend that Ford hasn't been fricking up lately trying to stay in compliance and with other issues though. But if I was buying a truck of that size right now, I'd still get the F250 diesel or a GM diesel. But that presence is changing with all of the enviornmental stuff going on with diesels.

Yeah I like the Ford and Chevy gas V8 motors. At least until we learned about the weak shafts in the Ford.
A big advantage of the Ford is a lower ride height if you don’t need four wheel drive. Much easier to step into. Not sure why all the GMC trucks have the same jacked up ride height.

There's a lot of good things with all 3 of them. HD trucks are spectacular right now. Unfortunately the prices reflect it. I'm not sure you can get any HD truck of any flavor for under $40k anymore.

Would like them better if you could still get them with a manual.

To me if you want any part of a vehicle made from steel it would be the drive shaft.
Why, when aluminum drive shafts have been just as strong, lighter, and have better service life. Maybe if you took an engineering class in statics the answer here wouldn't surprise you.
For you other non-thinkers, Toyota, GM and Dodge have been using aluminum for driveshafts is their cars and trucks for over 20 years.
