re: Forbes: Inflation Will Lead Inexecrably To Recession

what's a moderate recession when people were prevented by law from going to church a few months ago?
I understand the logic, but a moderate recession does not know relativity in terms of the human psyche. A moderate recession in the early 2000s is the same as a moderate recession in 2022.
I do agree that we have seen insanity over the past 2 years, but I have tried to steer clear of one-off sensational headlines (both left and right), or at the very least try to stay objective about what's happening.
Personally, an economic meltdown is far more worrisome than a province in Canada losing their mind and banning churchgoers, or New Zealand locking the country down. I'm not implying the latter isn't troubling if it starts to happen here, I'm just saying that a recession can't be sensationalized if you look into the numbers. A recession is a recession and has far reaching effects at home.

You and Forbes meant Inexecrably instead of inexorably right?

Larry Kudlow and Art Laffer were interviewing each other just recently concerning the recession and they both agreed that the only way to tamp down this inflation was to raise interest rates higher than the inflation rate.
I can't tell you how stupid of an idea this is without having a seizure. That would not only make inflation worse but it would blow up the financial system.

Is this what 2008 felt like?
Feels more like the 70s, except real unemployment went sky high in the late 70's/early 80s. In Bossier it was over 20%.

Let's be clear, the Biden admin has done NOTHING to help the situation and is making it worse through their stimulus, spending, and regulatory actions.
With that out of the way, Trump and every Republican played a part in this shitshow we have today. Trump bullied the Fed to keep interest rates low and fiscal policy loose in order to pump the market. Republicans and Trump encouraged the COVID lockdowns and stimulus spending.
I'm really not looking forward to the midterms or the 2024 election. I see a red wave coming, but every (R) I see on the ballot is a big gov't fricktard. I'd feel better if we had more Rand Pauls or Thomas Massies out there, but we don't. Worst case is we get Trump again in 2024 and he spends all his energy on vendettas and totally fricks our country up.

If a recession is inevitable, then we are already in one.

This will certainly be the narrative that the media will push, and idiots like you will believe it. Whatever the man on TV says!

Absolutely. Trump signed some shitty spending bills.
The feds should have held governors and mayors responsible for their own actions instead of bailing people out.

The Trump administration formed the Coronavirus Task Force, with Mike Pence in charge, which was working with the CDC and the governors to respond to the pandemic.
In spite of all the criticism Edwards got from Louisiana Republicans, he was just doing what the Trump administration was telling him to do.

You'll get lots of downvotes by stating the fact that Trump and Fauci directed the lockdowns. Did the Democratic managed states run with it more so than the Republican states? Absolutely, but make no mistake, Trump and Fauci directed them to do so. Further more, the US Dept of Justice (also under Trump's direction) did NOTHING to protect civil liberties when shitholes like New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Washington, etc, etc, etc went fricking overboard.
What we currently have is a potential disaster. As with all disasters, there's no one cause. There's no one person or group to blame. Disasters require a multitude of actions and inputs to occur. They are all responsible in some form or fashion.

Meh, I eat downvotes for breakfast.
On another note, while everyone is freaking out because Forbes is predicting a coming recession (although, we are probably in one currently), no one seems to want to remember the 2020 recession under Trump.

I disagree. The voters are to blame for putting all of these idiots in office - Republicants and Demorats.
The voters are such suckers for the partisanship game, they'll vote for anyone they're told to vote for.

Sorry you didn’t pick up on my sarcasm. This board routinely blames every single problem on Biden, so I was just giving it back.
These situations don’t happen in a vacuum and anyone blaming one guy over another is a partisan hack. They both share responsibility, along with Congress and a laundry list of others.

Senility finally getting to where you can't remember a few years ago...?
Vice President Mike Pence: Louisiana should be proud of coronavirus response
He singled out New Orleans, where the Louisiana outbreak was first confirmed, as a model of social distancing.
Pence applauded Louisiana’s aggressive effort in testing with the state testing among the highest number of people per capita.
“In discussions with your governor, we'll continue not only to offer our best counsel, but we'll continue to offer medical support, medical equipment, that personal protective equipment and we'll continue to offer support as Louisiana continues to try to increase testing across your state. Although, I will tell you that Louisiana can be proud to have one of the highest per-capita numbers of testing of any state in the country,” Pence said.
Governor John Bel Edwards said in a news conference Monday he hopes the state will be in a better position to adequately test state-wide and he extended state-mandated restrictions to May 15, expecting the state to then have the ability to test 4.3% of the population.
Edwards also said while metro New Orleans would meet the White House criteria for reopening, including infections, hospitalizations and the testing capacity, other parts of the state lag. He said Pence was supportive of delaying the start of phase one in Louisiana in his call today with the nation’s governors.
“I have to say how proud we are, despite the heartbreaking loss of people in our community and the families who've lost loved ones, New Orleans has made great progress and Louisiana has made great progress by putting the health of their neighbors first,” Pence said.

THE PRESIDENT
So now I'd like to get to a man that we've worked very closely together with. And John Bel and I - it looked like Louisiana was going to be missed for a while, right? It was - it was not registering. And then, all of a sudden, Tony called me and Deborah called me and they said, "What's going in Louisiana, too?" Because it went like a rocket ship all of a sudden, out of nowhere. It became one of the most difficult places. And we worked - all of us worked very closely together, and it's truly a tremendous - let's call it a success story in a couple months from now or -
