It was real enough for my friend's wife who died from it in April.

Hell I don’t know what it’s supposed to mean but I thought it was weird that no matter what number you use, there will be a story on new cases with that amount.
so if you put in the number 000 they will report zero new cases?

Guess I should’ve phrased it differently. I honestly believe there is a virus but I still don’t believe it’s as bad as they are saying. I honestly have not heard of anyone I know or anyone in my friends families that have tested positives for it. Now I do think a lot of people had it before all this started and they wrote it off as the flu or other kind of sickness.

Try this.
Do a google search for any 3 digit number followed by new cases. For example 444 new cases. Do it over and over with a different 3 digit number. See what happens. Maybe It’s just a coincidence but it sure does seem weird.
I dont think this is statically that crazy being there are ~1000 three digit numbers and many different publications all over the world reporting diff number of cases everyday for the last 3+ months

900 exactly
Would be every number from 100 to 999
But your point remains. With enough countries and large states reporting new cases every day it's not really unheard of for almost all of those numbers to be utilized. Particularly if there are some variances in reporting on a daily basis from different sources.

It's only weird that you are old enough to operate a computer and have no idea how numbers work. Thousands of entities (countries, states, cities, counties, parishes, etc) have been releasing data for over a hundred days. I'd be surprised if there is a number b/t 100 & 999 that couldn't be found.

Corona has been a major thing for more than a 100 days now. That’s 5000 possibilities just by state to have a new number. Now imagine separating it by city too. County?
Lots of angles to have at least one representive for one of 899 numbers.
Nvm: long since beaten to the point.
