Because fasting all day is, like, inconvenient, man. And eggs get old. I mean, I want to fast as a means of sacrifice and to bring me closer to the Lord, but I don't want to be hungry doing it. So His Benevolence was kind enough to issue the edict of the Pescatarian Pass on Fridays.

To religious people, your statement is ironic.

Tell me, what do you believe in? What are your guiding principles? What do you see as your purpose, or do you know?

It’s always a surprise to me why non-Catholics get so butt hurt about Catholic Lenten observances. Strange as it may seem, it’s these small expressions of faith, or at least a feeling of belonging to a group, which CINO’s (Catholic in name only) tend to hold onto even as they struggle with other serious parts of the faith. This is not meant to ridicule them. Far from it. I pray that every fallen Catholic, indeed every non-Catholic as well, finds the love of Christ in their heart and the Truth that is taught by the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. If it’s eating shrimp po-boys instead of hamburgers on Fridays in lent that keeps them loosely tethered to that Truth, well maybe there is some method to the madness of this supposed sacrifice.

Clear, concise, compassionate, accurate.
Well done.

I believe in nothing. There is no purpose, life is random. Religion is a crutch people use to help them deal with this fact.

Because Jesus' friends were mostly fishermen and the entire premise of "no meat on Lenten Fridays" began as a scam to increase fish sales.

Thank you for your honesty.

My guess is that you aren’t a true Nihilist, simply because there are so very few of them, thank God.

My guess is that you functionally operate within a moral framework, even if you aren’t particularly firm about its parameters. It’s structure is probably more than halfway supported by Judeo-Christian doctrine.

When you experience an event or series of events that make you face the tragic circumstances of our existence, you’ll have an existential crisis in which you’ll need a better explanation for how and why the world is the way it is, and why you act in the way that you do than the very simplistic, “there is no meaning.”

I dont get butt hurt about what you guys do during Lent, I think its weird and I enjoy making fun of it. Same as I enjoy ripping on my jewish friends for eating shellfish. I like some of the traditions of Catholicism but my hatred for what the Church hierarchy has done to boys around the world and meddling in politics makes me very anti-catholic.

In this premise, Jesus' friends were involved in the scheme, but Jesus was COMMITTED.

Best time of the year for non-practicing Catholics, non-denominational and different religious people to book a premium spot reservation at any prime steakhouse.

It’s less of a sacrifice and more a spiritual reminder. It’s also a very old traditional practice dating back to the earliest days of the Church.

Nevertheless, if you’ve ever tried to abstain from meat for a day, it can be more inconvenient and therefore more of a “sacrifice” than you might imagine.

My usual routine includes a breakfast biscuit with eggs and sausage - not on Fridays in Lent.

I go to lunch with friends: let’s get a meat lovers pizza. Nope. Cheese only for me.

Tonight we’re going to a friends house on a Friday night. They made Snacks, great! Chicken wings and taco dip with ground meat! Nope. Just the chips is all I get.

It’s not like Catholics eat lobster, shrimp po-boys, and boiled seafood at every meal on Fridays in Lent.

If I'm having a seafood feast, yea that's dumb and pointless. If I'm eating no meat and maybe a little fish with my meals, it's just me making a small sacrifice out of appreciation for Christ. That's more what the purpose is.
