For men- Is eating your mom's cooking comforting?

I used to not like my grandma's cooking, but my dad scarfs that stuff down every time we visit. It perplexed me because my mom (who did most of the cooking) cooks almost none of the same dishes regularly and when she does, it is pretty different from my grandma's recipe.
Now when I go home I feel like anything my mom cooks is like nectar of the gods, greatness across the boards.
I'm not married, but I have to ask the married guys- does or will your wife's cooking ever match up to your mother's?
It's hard for me to imagine meeting a girl who is both attractive and cooks the way my mom cooks.
Or do we just become accustomed to whatever is shoved in front of us and come to love it unconditionally?

I live 5 hrs away from my mom and haven't had a dish she made in over 3 yrs... not sure I'd even remember..
My wife on the other hand is an excellent cook.. not sure how she acquired that gift.. practice I assume

I'm very lucky to have grown up with a mother that can cook very well.
With that being said, this thread made me think of this movie line:

When I think of the steaks that my mother cooked when I was a youth, I think of ketchup. Moms from that generation would pick out the reddest, least marbled steaks in the store, because they were ignorant.

I particularly like my parents' holiday cooking. Definitely a comfort thing, but also delicious. Apple pie, peanut clusters, seafood gumbo, and ribs. Lately the sisters-in-law have been contributing their own recipes to the Christmas feast, and they are depressingly shitty.

No, but it's fricking delicious. My mom owned her own bakery for several years. She served lunch, and made desserts and treats and stuff. It's been closed for like 10 years and people still ask her if she'll ever do that again.
