If they were complaining about that home at $90k, you'd have a point.

I'd guess they'll eventually get ~$220K for that place, only because it has new floors, new interior paint, new roof, and a new HVAC.

OTOH, in the immediate area is this:

Barber room easily reconfigurable. Good bones in and out.

I have to tell you, that place is very similar to our 1st house. Except ours was directly across from the Med Center.

It was a different time though.

We could neither afford to hire contractors, nor did the possibility even occur.

There was no internet. I went to the store, bought "how-to" books, and figured it out.

The only hired service we paid for was a crew to lay the scrap piece of carpet we found for our bedroom.

I rented a sander, re-did the wood floors.

A friend and I laid linoleum in the kitchen/breakfast rm (breakfast room was our dining room).

I re-did walls.

Re-plumbed a tub to include a shower after our pipes froze, and broke one winter.

I opened a doorway between two rooms. Framing/hanging that new door was more difficult than soldering copper plumbing and bath fixtures.

I repainted the interior (just walls/cabinets/trim, not ceilings) and exterior of the house. etc. etc.

Sometimes I look back and ask, "How the heck did I do that?" Whether it is computer stuff, the early house stuff, business design, business mergers-acquisitions, necessity is the mother of all invention.

It appears "necessity" for current 20/30-somethings is definitionally different than it was in the past

Your example is a house in disrepair in BFE that wouldn’t pass an inspection for $150k?

This one is in bfe. The one he bought was across the street from his place of employment

That house would need $20k-$30k minimum in just materials just so it wouldn’t fall down in a decent storm. Now we’re talking about almost $200 a square foot for a house in BFE straight out of 1983
