I remember the gas crisis in the 70's when you could only buy gas every other day. The used car lots were full of those 396 Chevelles at the time. People could not afford the gas to keep them on the road.

So gas prices now are essentially equivalent to a time where we were in an energy crisis. That’s great and very comforting.

Well it IS an energy crisis.
Maybe if the windmills and solar really worked like the people claimed they did we wouldn't be in this mess. Also dont forget the keystone pipeline debacle.
Stuff that happened a decade ago is still cause ripple effects.

1976 was also the middle of its own oil crisis. You're just comparing one period of exceptionally high prices to another.
True, I picked 50 years randomly but the cost has been relatively flat versus inflation on average over time. Pretty amazing considering the amount of increased production costs due to environmental regulations. 50 years ago you would smell a refinery long before you saw it and there was no such thing as reformulated gasoline with the strict blending requirements.

We could always go back to complaining about tariffs.

I remember my dad getting my mom to call the police while he tackled some dude who was siphoning gas out of our car in our carport. Then we bought a gas cap that had a key lock on it.
That isn't really "the good old days" regarding gasoline.

Again, I’m not a boomer and sorry you have to live in Sulphur.

You would be surprised at how many people are living paycheck to paycheck. $37 dollars could mean feeding a family dinner or not I guess.

Or crawfish prices.

I’m not going to try to figure out how to copy the graph and post it for you on my phone. Just google this -
“graph of historical gasoline prices versus adjusted based on inflation”
Or look here

Expensive gas under Trump: "wow, this is great. We love paying higher gas prices and starting pointless wars in the middle East!"
Expensive gas prices under Biden: "OMG Biden is destroying this country with these high gas prices. Me and my family can barely make it because of these gas prices."

You could say the same for each side. But now this thread is political.
Elections have consequences.
