My family of 4 produces about 1.3 bags of trash per day. Primarily from food containers that don’t collapse well.

It often makes me wonder whether we need to adopt some system where we use refillable containers at the store.

Would this work?

Am I the only one bothered by this?

Over a bag a day is a lot. Do you not recycle? How full is the trash bag when you take it out?

I take ours out 2 sometimes 3 times on the weekends. Far less during the week when we are gone. Maybe every other day.

How many water bottles are involved?

Maybe get a big Brita tank for the fridge to cut down on all of that excess plastic use as small improvement.

It bothers me also. I don’t produce much because I primarily cook, reheat and drink water. Wife and kids eat a ton of shite out of packages. We fill up a 65 gallon can every week.

Republic Services stopped offering recycling. Used to not bother me as much but now we’re throwing all those things away. Need to switch garbage companies I guess

No. It is ridiculous how much plastic waste our food purchases generate.

My kid drinks bottled water a good bit. The wife and I just use Yeti cups and tap water. BR tap water tastes as good as bottled water to me and I like mine on ice.

these damn 16oz Busch cans fill a kitchen trash can quick, and our park manager always bitches when I just toss them under the trailer. So what's a Baw to do but take the trash out several times a weekend

my wife and I are solidly upper middle class. She'll definitely throw some wine bottles in the trash though. Other than that I'm not sure. We clean the house on the weekends. Don't eat much boxed/processed food.

Conveniently left out how big said trash bag is. What kind/size are we talking here?

A lot of recycling is pointless but it makes people feel good.

This. Curbside recycling isn’t what you think. The recycling was mainly sold in bulk to China to let them deal with it under the premise that they would recycle it. China is known for dumping that stuff in landfills and the Ocean. Now they won’t accept foreign recyclables and no one knows what to do with the recycling anymore. We don’t have slave labor like they do to make it profitable.

Yep but at least I'm trying. I'm not the shitty person in the recycling epidemic and am doing my part, so I feel slightly better about myself.
