on July 4 1999 I was grilling on my back deck enjoying the summer day at my lovely new house in the woods with my 3 year old. We had a new Tahoe in the driveway, a boat under the shed that I worked three years to save for, my job was finally taking off and my wife and I had good friends and a supportive family on both sides. Life was good, I was 33 years old

Wife comes outside and matter of factly tells me she doesn’t want to be married anymore

Did you ever figure out how you were so clueless of what was going on in your ex-wife's head?

May I weigh in with a female perspective? There is something really odd about this situation considering that she is pregnant. Not many pregnant women want to be on their own. The instinct during pregnancy is to solidify family relationships so that the baby is born into a close and loving family unit. The fact that she wants to divorce while pregnant makes it less likely that the baby is yours.

I’d start therapy just to consistently talk to someone and help you with your emotions. It’s ok to be angry and sad. But don’t go curing those yourself. Just know life will keep going and you’ll have to cope for a bit. A year from now will be different.

Take a trip by yourself. Vegas. Gamble. Golf. Eat. Drink. See girls. Hike. Cry. Smoke. Whatever you want. Just get out and feel alive.

I have beat my head against the wall thinking about this scenario. I don’t get it. At this point, she has no reason to lie about it though.

I did t realize she was pregnant. Saddest thing about this whole situation is you’ll miss out on that third trimester sex.

Yes, she does. I’m just going to say it- you’re a sensitive new age nice guy beta pussy. She knows that. Probably one of the reasons she’s leaving. But you’re safe and stable and she also knows she can try to strong arm you into raising that baby (or at least providing for it) without ironclad proof it’s yours.

He conveniently avoided quoting the part where it isn’t his. The denial is strong

Maybe she just enjoys fricking with you. Sounds like this could be the actions of a scorned woman getting a little revenge.

Why on earth have you convinced yourself of this? She has plenty of reason to lie.

You’ve literally told everyone here that you’re not 100% sure it’s yours but you’re willing to play daddy without question. And you think she doesn’t have a reason to lie about it? You’re literally offering it potentially take care of another man’s child and she won’t have to bother this other guy about it.

Get. The. Paternity. Test.

I never once said this. I said I’m preparing to be the dad. As in, I assume it will be mine. I’m not raising a child that isn’t mine. I’ve told her I want a test.

Good. But that be good or bad. It could be yours and you do the right thing. Or it is someone else’s and you are not responsible. But at least you will know.

What exactly are you preparing? Your life isn’t changed at all until it comes out

She can get the test during pregnancy also

Cleaning out a spare bedroom in my house. Mental prep. I’m assuming it’s mine. If it’s not, so be it.

Has she committed to getting the test asap? Why is she waiting and holding it over your head?

Is she living with the new boyfriend?
