Advocate

Plans for a high-tech driving range near the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center are being “parked,” Gov. John Bel Edwards said Tuesday. “That’s not something we’re going to pursue right now,” he said in an interview. “We may or may not come back to it later.

Developer Joe Jaeger, on whose land the Drive Shack complex was to be located, was so incensed that he halted demolition of the old Times-Picayune building on the site and said he would let Drive Shack out of its lease. "I am delighted that the hard work of Mayor Cantrell and Councilmember Banks to bring Drive Shack to the former site of the Times-Picayune has been validated," Jaeger said Tuesday after the statement from Edwards. "I am hopeful the news out of Baton Rouge is definitive enough to allow the Drive Shack project to proceed."

Call me crazy but eventually I want a stadium on that land, not a driving range.

Lots of folks were burning up the lines last week, not just Jaeger. Once JBE figured out what was going down, he probably saw that Sawaya and Rodrigue got way out over their skis on this one. The special district law allows no-bid projects but its intended target was the hotel project and related developments. This was out of left field.

The Advocate reporting has been solid with the details of the convention center bait and switch.

FWIW, some think Topgolf was a direct shot at Jaeger. Likely one reason he pulled out of the hotel team.

Do you not understand the fricking nightmare that would be getting in and out At that location?

Moving to a new location would be a massive mistake. The dome is currently in the perfect spot.

Why did Jaeger and he group go with Drive Shack instead of Top Golf?

Jaeger just comes across as a big cry baby at the end of the day.

Fck him and his hotel

I’d dont care if we get Drive Shack or Top Golf, makes no difference to me, but screw that Hotel

First of all, the dome isn’t going anywhere anytime soon so calm TF down.

My point is that the land is better served undeveloped and available for public use than for a private business to toss up a driving range.

Topgolf was all set to go there and they pulled out. Had a change at the top and the new guy 86’d it. That wasn’t Jaeger’s choice.

Of course he doesn’t understand because he’s a kid. He doesn’t even have a drivers license yet.

weird you didn't just say that instead of saying you thought a stadium should go there.
