Have had zero issues with American in the last year of flying and hopping on one to Santa Barbara next week. Hope you experience the same!

I know he is not everyone's cup of tea but he posted this on FB yesterday:

quote:

Here’s a brief list of some the problems we had on our recent trip to St. John’s Newfoundland on Air Canada:
1. Original flight was canceled and re-booked for a late afternoon flight the next day.
2. We lost our business seating during the re-book and were placed in the back of the plane next to the restrooms.
3. We lost the difference in cost between the preferred seating on our original flight and the regular economy seating we were re-booked on and we’re NOT refunded the difference!
4. Our re-booked flight in Philadelphia was delayed over an hour because Air Canada said they were “short staffed.”
5. Our connection flight in Toronto to St. John’s was ALSO delayed over 3 hours because of alleged “security issues.”
6. The airplane was delayed another half hour in Toronto because Air Canada said they had to get our plane to an alternate gate. In the Toronto Air Canada terminal, there was no access to this new gate? We we were then herded like cattle to a closed glass door until we were finally allowed access to the new gate.
7. Tired and dejected, we finally landed in St. John’s at around 3:30 AM to find that ALL of our bags were missing! No Air Canada staff there to even help us file a claim?
8. Also, because of the huge delay and ultra late arrival, we were unable to get our rental car because the rental car agency was closed. Had to get a cab instead.
9. In the cab to the rental house, we were informed by the cab driver (a former Air Canada employee) that luggage was often purposely left in Toronto because getting the mail to St. John’s paid more and got preference to the customers luggage.
10. Half way there folks! NOW the return trip!
11. On the return trip from St. John’s to Toronto (ultimately trying to get back to Philadelphia ), our flight was delayed over 40 minutes for a supposed “mechanical issue.”
12. After finally boarding our connecting flight, we sat on the plane at the gate for over an hour because they said there was no one from Air Canada available to bring the paperwork to the plane to allow us to take off?
13. During the delay, customers were hitting the call button asking about the delay and connections and the stewardess’s were rude and talking smack about the passengers.
14. During the flight, I used the restroom. As I came out, the Pilot came out of the cockpit at the same time. With the door to the cockpit wide open he entered the restroom behind me with no security measures in place?????
15. Because of the delay in St. John’s, (as we were in the air) we were automatically re-booked again on a much later Air Canada flight.
16. Again, we were rebooked from our preferred seating to economy seating in the back of the plane NOW going to Philadelphia through Chicago instead of directly to Philly!
17. Having enough of Air Canada at this point, we just decided to just rebook (on our own dime) in Toronto to Philadelphia on a totally different airline.
18. We then proceeded to an AirCanada service desk to let them know we had rebooked on a different airline and wanted to cancel our rebooked Air Canada flight. The Air Canada service representative assured us they would cancel our flight (more on this later).
19. After switching flights and airlines, we went to a Air Canada service desk in baggage claim to have our luggage retrieved. After a super long wait (we’ll over an hour), the Air Canada service representative told us they could not located our bags. He then had to call a manage (another wait) for us to be able to file a bag claim.
20. Finally we thought we were home free, but on the way to the new gate/airline, we were held up at customs because the Air Canada customer service representative (that told us she would cancel our flight) never canceled our re-booked Air Canada flight. (We DID make the flight home finally on a different airline! ??).

My first flight was delayed about 40 minutes. No big deal.

My second flight was on time and arrived 15 minutes early.

If traveling, you should account for acceptable delays in your schedule. Always assume a flight may be delayed by 1 hour. Longer than 1 hour, then yes, the airline is at fault.

Better than Spirit or Southwest lately. I've had more delays and cancellations in the last 6 months with Southwest than I've had the last 10 years of flying.

Not my experience. delays/cancellations have increased for everyone over the last 6 months. SW usually handles it better than AA

Southwest > American

Southwest

Has turned to a cattle call carrier. Granted I have DM and MM status with delta, I’ll HAPPILY pay 1.5x cost to fly delta than ever touch a southwest plane again.

I hate American’s laid back attitude. It’s such a weird culture and vibe when you get on their planes.

Worst airline I've used, even worse than Spirit.

I’m not an American fan at all, but this is a tall claim if for no other reason than just the clientele.

When you walk through an airport, you can sense where you’re getting close to walking past a Spirit terminal based on the frickery you start to see and hear.

was doing a CRAF charter during one of the Gulf Wars with a plane full of Marines a few years back, one of the pilots was a former Marine and he was talking to an old gunnery sgt. that was also a Vietnam veteran, he asked him if he's ever done these type of flights back during the vn war and what were the flight attendants like, he said oh hell yeah, the stews were young, hot, and a lot of fun, we even had layovers with them and we'd all go out partying, my friend said "guess what gunny, these are the same flight attendants"

I took an American flight to OHare at the start of the month and it wasn't bad.
Used to be you could fly the 777 between DFW and O'Hare. Those were great to fly on for that route.

The following happened to my Mrs. last week.

Flying from Pensacola to Shreveport via Dallas. Plane loads in Pensacola. Captain announces that there will be a slight delay in taking off due to paperwork. They sat for an hour and a half before taking off. She misses her initial connecting flight and has to catch a later one into Shreveport.

For the return. American cancels the flight from Dallas to Pensacola. Now she has to fly into Ft. Walton and arrives at 11:00 P.M.

She has to travel next week to Lakeland, FL. and has decided to drive.
