Waiting on a fema trailer?
Sheetrock going up?
Cabinet guy still 4 months out?
Insurance lowball you?

*I am in a rental apartment, on several contractors lists and waiting to see what insurance will pay. Just curious about others.

Got sheetrock completely finished and all the walls primed. Got my fireplace rebricked, hopefully starting all the trim work this week.

Why? Because I am not doing it myself? We are waiting on contractors I personally know but we are not family so have to wait. My husband and I work too much to do it ourselves.

We've got everything done but two doors, trim and a few cased openings. On a tight deadline as little muice pops out in 4-5 weeks - so we've been hustling.

I guess the only upside of no flood insurance (at the time locked, that down now) is that I didn't have to play the waiting game.

Hope it all gets worked out for you.

Were yall able to pull everything wet and damaged out? Just waiting on contractors to do electrical/structural stuff isn't so bad. I couldn't imagine sitting around waiting, I would go crazy.

Hope it works out for yall though.

i hear ya but what about the possibility of the home not ever able to be insured again? Buddy of mine in Denham lives within the 100 year flood plain and he's still waiting to hear if his home would need to be raised. Home has been gutted for a month now and still no word from FEMA.

He had insurance. Has the money to rebuild it but if he does and FEMA comes in and says his home should have been raised before repairing it the home would never be able to get insured by him nor anyone else in the future.

I retract my previous statement. Are you in the Denham area or Youngsville?

My folks have the contractors starting next week. It was a bit crazy, because they had started taking bids to do a complete remodel on the home about a month or two before the flood. They were able to keep the same contractor they were going to use pre-flood.

Now the remodel is being paid for by insurance and the demo work got done for free by kids and friends.

I'm in zone X in BR. Called the week after everything went down to get flood insurance, and it kicked in on 9/22 so I think I'm in the clear. My house is already elevated 18" and its higher than all the different elevations I've heard as requirements.

guess different parishes are doing things differently. I know Denham is still making people wait. Aren't issuing permits in the 100 year flood zone.

it's ridiculous. I know people that already have sheetrock hung over there and i keep telling them they're fricking up doing that without permits.
They don't care. They're desperate which is why this federal bullshite is pissing me off. Not everyone has somewhere else to go so they do what they can to stay in the only place they have available.

I kept telling my folks to wait, but they got issued a permit by LP without so much as having to discuss elevation. They were pretty damaged too. Oh well.

In my mom and grandpa's houses.
Sheet rock is up, floated, and textured. The crew is coming paint next weekend.

I put the cabinets back in this weekend. All appliances are ordered and awaiting delivery this week.

The floors will go back in this week.

We got new furniture and it will be delivered after the floors are done.

Insurance was generous. Well, they actually gave us what we needed and maybe a little extra.

We did all of the deconstruction ourselves, and found a group of Mexicans that work for a contractor during the week to come work on weekends. We also had a lot of help from local high school boys whose homes didn't flood, and we have a large family with a variety of home building skills. We have been as blessed as we can be considering the circumstances. I hope and pray that everyone else gets back o their feet asap.
