Hey OT,
Quick question. Unfortunately, yesterday my wife has a miscarriage and we’re setting up some doc appointments and whatnot for the week. We’re scheduled to fly out together to Florida this Thursday but are now unable to make it.

We’re flying American and I’m unfamiliar with their cancelation policy. Would I be able to get our money back or am I SOL? I’m not interested in rescheduling the trip or moving the dates. Just want to stay home for a bit.

AA is horrible about cash refunds. They will probably give you vouchers instead. They did that crap to me even though they cancelled the flight and I missed my trip just 3 weeks ago. Now I have $1500 worth of vouchers and am using United to fly today instead of AA. I will use them eventually but it's a stupid policy.

Had points refunded after sending in medical documents - so not cash fare but got points back

Their website just says that we’ll receive a full refund if we cancel within 24 hours of purchase. I guess I was just wondering what the policy would be with our circumstances. Maybe there’s no policy at all — just gotta eat the cost.

They might just give you a credit for future trips.

Call and explain what happened. Ask them what documents they need for you to get a refund. Whole process will take several weeks, make copies of any documents you send in for when they lose them/say you never sent it in

I'm so very sorry. Prayers for you and your family.

As far as the tickets, it may depend on the type you purchased.

Give them a call and explain what happened. Ask what document can be submitted to receive a possible refund. If the customer service rep you speak with doesn’t seem helpful, call back and speak with another one.

Y'all just talking like a doctor's note? Because screw giving anyone else medical documents for a refund.

Jesus man. Sorry to hear that. I'm sure if you call and tell them your situation they will be more than happy to let you cancel.

Call AA. They should issue you a credit for future travel (within next 12 mo) for the value of the flight given the medical issue.

At worst, they'll issue you a credit for future travel less their change fee, which is $200 IIRC.

My sympathies to you and your wife on the loss of your child.

Yea. Get her doctor to write up something saying she's not fit to fly and most airlines will give refund. Good luck.

Most waive all this if it's medical and sudden not chronic.

Just call them, explain the situation and ask. We don't know the terms of your specific tickets and AA does, so call them.

Sorry to hear about the miscarriage. We also had one with our first pregnancy. It's not easy, but you'll move forward together.
