Been using K9 Advantix II for awhile, but was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative with comparable effectiveness. I trust OT experience over Google.

Whatever you give them for heartworms doesn't protect them?

I used shieldtec, which was something I applied down their back, but with their heartworm meds they have never had problems with fleas and ticks.

You can use a Seresto collar which can last for up to 8 months I believe.

I use PetArmour+ for mine and have had no issues. Not exactly sure how it compares in price.

You can give them ivermectin for heartworms which is a fraction of the cost of what the vet sells you.

We don't have much issue with fleas and have had no issue with the topical meds. We used Frontline and Frontline Plus for years but switched to the "generic" Pet Armor about 3 years ago and find it to be just as effective. You get varied opinions on that. It is $55 for 12 doses for large dogs on Amazon, not sure about the other sizes.

One note about the topicals there is a very small number of dogs that have adverse reactions to them. Advantix has different chemicals than Frontline/Pet Armor so you are taking that (very small) chance again with switching. In general larger healthy dogs have milder symptoms than small and sick dogs if they can't tolerate them.

There is no reasn to give NexGard AND Sentinel. You should be giving NexGard and Interceptor- Sentinel is just Interceptor plus a fairly poor flea control. You are already getting better flea control with NexGard.

This is true.

We have been using the Pro Heart injections from the yet for several years now because we were always bad about remembering the monthly doses. The shots are NOT a cheaper option though like using ivermectin.

This absolutely works…but the Covid deniers may have it in short supply now.

You can, but I have seen a number of dogs with problems caused by their owners overdosing them. HG is already less than $10/mth and there are plenty of just fine generics for cheaper available

Buy it in vials and use syringes to scale down the dosage for your dog's weight. The first time I moved overseas with my dog and didn't have a reliable source for heartworm meds, these were the instructions given to me by his vet. I've done this with 3 different dogs without a single issue.

We use Bravecto.

Before we were using another brand and had a bad infestation and vet said some brands are not effective in South LA.

They were hell to get rid of too. Had to bathe and dip both dogs weekly for about a month and use $200 worth of shite from pestop in the yard. ‘Twas a PITA.

Before anyone says Talstar stops the fleas altogether the yard was being treated every 6 months with PL granules when they got the fleas.

Vet said they can come from stray cats and squirrels which unfortunately we have plenty.
