Oh well if that's a different guy, then I can correct my wife.

And my apologies for the initial comments.

They may be friends and make videos together. There is a whole group out there in FL that snake hunts but I watch fishingarret. Dude's out there walking the Everglades barefoot grabbing pythons.

Eastern diamondback rattlesnake: the most venomous viper in America. What's he doing acting silly and taking photos and not calling 911-- it's a miracle he didn't die during the filming of this

My dad once told me that all snakes are either rattlesnakes or cobras.

I posted this on the Outdoor Board - he’s my friend that I travel with to catch snakes. I’ve been in Gainesville visiting him at the hospital the past couple days.

These stupid arrogant kids should be a little more prepared knowing they are in the snake’s habitat.

He’s not a “stupid arrogant kid” - he’s one of the premier field herpers in the country - the best I’ve met. Snakes can and do go unseen due to the camouflage evolution has equipped them with. He was focused on peeking behind tree bark for scarlet kings and didn’t see the EDB, which didn’t rattle. It happens.

F social media influencers. That diamondback was doing the Lord's work

And he doesn’t call himself an “influencer” - he’s a content creator and would be doing the same thing every day even if it wasn’t for content - he simply loves snakes. He’s also the most devout Christian I’ve ever met, so I seriously doubt this was “the Lord’s work”.

Then why did he just sit there like an idiot and not immediately head to a hospital?

All that’s fine and dandy but his reaction and actions after getting bit to keep filming and narrating for content were fricking stupid and indicative of the brain rot that afflicts social media content creators and influencers.

I think he had a life flight too

That probably saved his life. 25 minute ride to a fire station, 10 minutes to the helipad via ambulance, 17 min helicopter ride which would’ve been 1 hr 13 min by ambulance.

Due to prior bites and antivenin (Trans-Pecos copperhead earlier this year and a pygmy rattler previously, for which he had 12 vials of antivenin), he had an allergic reaction, his airway was closing, and he could barely speak. At the fire station they refused his request for an epi pen and told him he just needed to calm down. Thankfully the guys on the life flight gave him the shot of epinephrine.

He was downgraded from MICU to the intermediate care unit in between my visits on Monday. But necrosis in his leg is worsening according to the last CT scan so he’s not out of the woods yet.

Also there’s a gofundme set up for him to help with the astronomical cost for this. There are links to it on his ig page, @adventorin.

Isn't anti-venom like $5k-$10k per vial?

In 2010 a friend was bitten by a rattlesnake and they used 55 vials of anti-venom at $3k per so that # sounds right. Why 55 vials? I posted this on a Wisconsin Badger message board when it happened:

quote:

Just got off the phone with the guy, apparently the snake was a relatively small one. He said they actually gave him 55 vials of anti-venom and docs were worried he wouldn't make it. Apparently his blood paletelet levels were extremely low so I'm guessing it was a hemotoxic snake but he didn't know for sure. He said when it struck the first time he didn't think it got him but the second time it bit into his hand and wouldn't let go and he had to pull it off. Damn. Hoping to not have to undergo skin grafts but it's wait-and-see.

He and his buddy were taking a couple from their bible study group on their first ever herping trip, so this was a very casual outing. They stopped to help a turtle cross the road. David noticed the tree with loose bark and walked over to check for scarlet kings.

He instantly knew the severity of the bite, and in the video you can also see the look of terror on Aiden’s face. David responded nonchalantly because he didn’t want to freak out the couple that he had brought along for their first nature excursion. Because that’s the kind of guy he is - he always puts others before himself.

The conclusions people jump to in this thread are a prime example of how fricked up news is in today’s world.
