Lots of used machines on Craigs list. span of output is 0-20 inches of water. much above 14-15 setting will blow the mask off face, much below 10 inch is not useful, so pick a setting. I love my Cpap for the last 10 years

Can you just buy a cpap machine and supplies without the doctor’s red tape and the insurance company’s blessing?
You can do whatever you want but you should have the CPAP machine calibrated to your specific condition
Also just so know, CPAP machines are not all the same. It’s not a “One size fits or all” type of deal.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and recorded a whooping 70 events per hour. Im not fat but need to lose about 20lbs. I snore like a tank at night lol
That's exactly my situation.
After getting my apap (got the mouth & nose mask) my AHI went down to below 5. Over the last few months though it has slowly crept back up to the teens, sometimes 20s and one just over 30.
I can really feel it when I have a few nights over 10. I get tired faster, sleepier during the day, dizziness begins to return, etc.
I'm currently trying to sleep more on my stomach, or at least on my side (with limited success, I really need to get a new mattress), but my natural inclination is to sleep on my back (which is the worst position for apnea).

Have it.
Bipap. Life saver. Experienced all same symptoms as you. Started w/CPAP and wrong pressure first 5 yrs. Had 2nd sleep test that discovered bipap and higher pressure was the difference.
Good luck.

You would think humans should evolve out of this issue...
I go Nov 15 to get tested....tired of my wife complaining.
Plus, heart issues don't help either.

This will decrease the pressure when you exhale

quote:I agree with all this and tbh, I would get your doctor involved, let your insurance help and pay the rest. Also if u go the correct route , nowadays Dr's are prescribing auto pap technology. The machine will adjust naturally/automatically to what amount of air pressure you need for good therapy. I have a resvent ibreeze 20a apap....great quiet machine thus far

quote:maybe you need new supplies? My doctor told me if my apnea got better or worse say due to weight lose or whatever that the autopap technology will adjust on its own to what your needs are. Talk to company that supplied the machine.

It’s a modern problem. It didn’t exist 200 years ago.
It’s usually diet related, and the result of insufficient skeletal growth. It can also be the result of a tongue ties.

Chicken, why do you keep deleting my responses? None have broken the rules.

look up mouth exercises. download the snore gym app. In 3 months snoring goes down by 50%.

Been on a CPAP for the last 6-7 years, after several years of using a jaw manipulator. I sleep better now.
I have always been a mouth breather when sleeping, so I'm pretty surprised that the nose only pillows work so well for me. I sleep on my stomach, so a full-face mask probably wouldn't work as well.
YMMV.

Diagnosed 5 years ago, prescribed a Dreamstation machine.
Hated the full face mask, opted to go with the ResMed Airfit p10 nasal pillow mask and haven't looked back. Best sleep of my life ever since a friend recommended it to me. I've gotten to the point where I prefer to wear it when napping as well.

I’ve got it bad also (55 yrs ) tried sleeping with that on my face. I just can’t

Try different masks. I tried wearing a full face and just gave up. But went back and got just nasal mask and it helps tremendously.
The only bad thing is if I drink something in my body rips the mask off in the middle of the night. If I don’t drink I can wear it for 6 hours or so

Sounds exactly like my situation, and this has come on over the last 6 months. Waiting for my sleep test results. Will be following.
