First weather fronts were renamed "polar vortexes" now they have "bomb cyclones"?

The renaming of common weather terms to hyperbolic click bait names just screams look at me...I need your attention.

Actually, they are two different events.

Polar Vortex

Bomb Cyclone

Also, it's called a "bomb" cyclone due to the explosive development, so it's not just hyperbolic.

If you had just done a quick Google search, then we could've avoided this "look at me" type of thread.

They’re not the same.

We usually end up on the edge of a polar vortex when the cold air shifts down from the arctic.

Bruv, a "bomb" cyclone just refers to how fast the pressure drops. The media has loved that one for a few years now. It is, at least, correctly used.

The polar vortex on the other hand...

In the 1940s and 1950s, meteorologists at the Bergen School of Meteorology began informally calling some storms that grew over the sea "bombs" because they developed with a great ferocity rarely seen over land.[5]

Okay, maybe it's just the media embellishing meteorological terms to no fault of the meteorological community.

Just think of what the media would do if they got a hold of engineering terms: "stud", "nut", "total dynamic head", "suction head", "shaft", "orifice", etc., etc.

I lived through a bomb cyclone last year. It’s basically a blizzard (heavy snow and high winds blowing snow) with even higher and more sustained winds

God forbid people use facts and logic instead of just yelling their feelings about the "weather people" and the scary media
