So I got rear ended today by this old black lady (phrasing). I was coming up to a red light in the right turn only lane, and saw there was oncoming traffic so I came to a complete stop. Then, bam, my car gets struck from behind.
This was the first time I had been driving while in an accident. It was definitely her fault btw. I got out and checked for damage. I drive a 99 4Runner with a towing hitch on the back, which is what she hit first, and that didn’t appear to be damaged on my end, but it punctured her front lower bumper. Didn’t inspect much further because I assume that was the only noticeable damage, so we both agreed it wasn’t worth filing a police report or insurance (probably a mistake on my end) and we exchange general info (name, number, license plates). Then we go our separate ways.
A little while later I inspect the back of my vehicle in case I missed something and there’s actually a very small dent on the right side of my bumper, and the piece of trim above the bumper is now slightly leaning/slanted down out of position so there’s just like an inch of space now between that and the tail light on the right side. Nothing too noticeable, but obviously this was a result of her rear ending me.

What’s the OT’s thoughts on the matter? Should I give her a call and let her know I found more damage than initially, then sort out what it’s going to take to get it repaired, or just leave it be and get it taken care of on my own dime or leave it be?

*FWIW* she’s an elderly fat black lady. Was very nice and apologetic, but seemed broke af based on the car she drove so really don’t even know if she has insurance or the means to pay for what damage she caused. And if she gave me fake info then that’s just my own fault.

A 20 year old vehicle, I would just leave it be.

Just contact your insurance company and give them all the info.

A 99 Forerunner should have a couple small nicks and dents. frick it.

Plus you fricked up anyway so don't sweat it.

You're going to jail for making that poor old lady hit you.

You don’t really have a choice anymore. It’s either leave it alone or you pay to fix it.

I wouldn’t be worried about a 20 year old beater

Yes. Context and details matter. But, what, you wanna assume I’m racist or something because I included a little too accurate of a description?

My thoughts on it too. Can’t really be too upset seeing as it was her fault and I could have pressed for insurance and a police report, but also not trying to have my insurance go up. Live and learn experience I suppose.

Probably a ho back in her day.
