would say the waste in money is due to sending too many people and vehicles out to calls. In many places, if you cut yourself with a knife in the kitchen and call 911, they send police, ambulance, and fire truck. The fire truck is definitely not needed on that call.

There are no fires in movies...outside dense Urban populations....you have 10+ guys respond to a fire, 2 actually MIGHT be on the hose while 8 others stand around chatting.

Because they don't do shite and NEED an excuse to start the engine. That's why they started responding to medical calls

You’re the ignorant civilian that keeps us from getting raises.

What a stupid thread.

Just so you don’t stay ignorant you’re entire life, a 1 alarm fire (which is any regular fire) is 3 engines, Ladder, rescue squad, chief and safety officer. That’s 22 guys. If it goes to a 2nd alarm, you’re adding two more engines and possibly another ladder. As the alarms go up the number of man power goes up.

There are 7-8 NOEMS units available at all times. There are 10 medical calls every 2 minutes in New Orleans.

Last year we responded to 70,000 calls. They include :
Medicals 40,000
Elvalators
Gas Leaks
Power lines down
Car accident
Water rescues
Collapses
False alarms
Business alarms
Searches
Bomb threats
Chemical spills
Trash fires
Auto fires
Grass fires
Shooting clean up
Fuel clean up
Lift assist
Suicide Attempts
Covering stations
Animal rescues
Lock outs
Police assist
Focibile entries
Etc.....

All while doings
100,000 business inspections
5,000 smoke alarm installations
10,000 hydrant pressure test
Blighted home counts
Barricade pick up
MDA boot shakes
Red Cross Boot Shakes
Hurricane Preparness
Post Hurricane evaluations
Manning Winter Freeze Shelters
Etc.....

Oh and I work a second job and own a business.

So you saying anything is laughable. Just go back to your cubicle and bitch about something you might know about.

In BR there are 19 stations and all firefighters must be registered EMT’s. There are only 8 ems stations. So FD can get to calls much quicker than ems and begin life saving measures. So I’m assuming if you or your family had a medical emergency you’d be glad they send that expensive pesky ole fire truck.

And trust me the calls that come in as a small cut to a finger turn into a severed arm by the time you get on scene.

This is exactly right, but the fire districts love this system. When it comes time to justify their existence, they trot out the number of calls they respond to, when, most of the time, a fire truck was not needed. If you ask them how many fires they handled, the number drops dramatically.

I wonder if we really need a chief and administrative staff at every district. Why not consolidate and lower the overhead?

Exactly what I said in OP.

What's quicker, a 2 man crew in an ambulance...or a 10 man crew on a yacht?

Oh you were 5 mins late to a house fire or 5 mins delayed to someone bleeding out/heart attack/stroke/ etc.

The common large engine fire house needs to be rethunk.

This is because dumbasses will dial 911 for a fender bender.

Because they've been told to do so since grade school. Has created dependence on LEO/Fire, etc. i.e. GOV.

Yeah, I didn't even count them in expenses. I just used the salaries of hairless gym rats that are issued medium sized shirts

You really are stupid.

Our response time is 2 1/2 minutes. We lead the nation.

We also won the National medical award for the second straight year.
resuscitating more people than any other department in the country.

Personally my crew saved 3 infants from no pulse in the last 3 months because there were no Ems units available. There are over 30 stations in the city and we’re all doing the same thing daily. And you’re questioning what we do?

Say something else you tool bag.
