I had suspectted that a good friend of my grandmother, who was like an aunt to my dad, had passed. My grandmother and father have passed and she was 95 and really no other family. I called her every so often just to talk but I called a few months ago and it had been since Christmas that I spoke to her last and phone was no longer in service.

No obit I can find and internet searches provide little help. I did find some sort of court record of a succession but can't access it. Any advice anyone can provide would help. Thanks in advance.

What parish? I might can help you.

If it’s her name exactly, and it’s recent then yeah, not looking good.

Google her name and obituary.

If not, she was 95. Chances are low. She could possibly be in a nursing home?

Pay for temporary access to the clerk of court and look at the succession, or go down to the courthouse and look at it yourself. Death certificates are not publically available info

Try the find-a-grave website. Amazingly complete information and it will link you to any obituaries, etc.

Assuming you're in LA, you need to find the parish she lived in and purchase access through the clerk of court.

Others did mention, Google her name and "obituary" in case someplace was able to make one already.

If you can’t access it online, call the courthouse. They can look it up for you.

If you know the names of her family members who pre-deceased her, look up their obituaries to get alternative versions of her name.
Shorten her name, name and parish, even call the major mortuaries that serve the town she lived in. Explain why you are searching and if they can't help, ask if they could recommend someone who could. Even the church she attended might know something.

Good luck.

it is in Orleans Parish and the CoC website is not the greatest. I had checked full name parish and obituary and nothing. Obits used to be required but not anymore. My uncle has a friend that lives around the corner and told him she had passed.

the one hit i get on the internet is from Trellis which shows a General Probate filed in Orleans Parish for a Succession. i dont know if the site is legit or not.

I tried for years to find info on the WWII vet that taught me how to fly his Globe Swift. Kind of a mentor and father to me, but we had a major falling out. Knew he would be in his late 90's if still alive.
Finally found him on the 6th page or so on Goggle that led to a county site.
Passed away in Washington state almost twenty years ago.

I was searching for my old fishing buddy from our Auburn days. I found his obituary from a couple of years ago. Obits now have web pages and on his were pictures of him holding up some big bass in his Auburn hat.
