Lol, grow an imagination? The Ozarks are pretty cool…To each their own Baw, but Please enlighten us on where you currently reside.

Lived there for a year after college. It’s pretty rough. Lot of “old money” in Memphis. But in reality, it’s not that old of a city. Especially compared to a place like New Orleans or Mobile.

Do they still have the main Williams Sonoma outlet?
Has Theater Memphis gotten more woke?
Do small ethnic children who walk to BBQ joints to pick up dinner still sit on the floor to pull off their shoes and socks to get the money their Mommas hid in the socks to keep it safe?

No idea what any of that is baw, only lived there for a year and it was in Midtown next to Overton Park.

Was there last year for 3 days and wasn't impressed but I didn't get to see the whole town. That Bass Pro Pyramid hotel was the nicest thing for sure that I saw.

Memphis is a less interesting New Orleans with a better job market and nicer suburbs. You could carve out a decent life there if you needed to but it's a bottom tier place to live.

If y’all think it’s been bad the last 7 years in Memphis…you should have seen it during the recession.
That little Madison/Cooper area was just parking lots and struggling businesses. They added that parking deck and the neighborhood took off. Some of my favorite restaurants in town were around there. Many parts of that city are actually better. Cooper/Young still looks decent but that’s always been very close to sketchy areas.
Cordova and Hickory Ridge are way worse now than they were 10-15 years back. Downtown was disappointing then and it’s still disappointing for a city that size.
We left in 2015. Drove by our old place in Collierville last year. That suburb has exploded in growth. Feels more like an Atlanta burb now with all the traffic. I’m sure most of that growth has come at the expense of Memphis.

Why do people have this anti suburbs mentality ?
Some people want to live near a city without having to live in said city and deal with all city issues. Not everyone wants to live in a city no matter how good or bad the city is.

I may or may not be in that area.
Thanks for the support, I forgot to check in to this thread after the first reply, I got discouraged.

I got a much better, higher paying job in my field that I am excited for, my dad passed late last year and I have nothing tying to me this area really anymore.
Yeah it is NW Arkansas, I am a bit weary giving too much information because it’s probably pretty easy to dox me if you follow my personal details.
I grew up in the Chicago area and have no desire to live in a big city, I’m a suburban person.
As far as how the suburbs are here, yeah Collierville and Germantown are a bit better, but the Memphis culture leaks here, you are not getting the cream of the crop working in the service industries.
I went to scout out apartments in Arkansas and I stopped at a Wendy’s and got my food before I left the counter, I was in shock.

RetiredSaintsLSUfan and I both live north of there. It is a great area and you will really like it especially if you enjoy time outdoors. Very safe despite a few property crime areas.

At the surface this seems like a silly reason to relocate but it really matters. These are the types of people you interact with most frequently and if they’re miserable it will ruin your day.
