I've wondered about that too. It's only available to military members and their immediate family... and every military member knows about USAA.

They are getting greedy, that is why. I am not saying they are not great service, but profit is taking over.

Look up the USAA history when you can. They are really 2 main entities now. The original officer only and then the newer open to more people. When the relaxed it to enlisted it was NCO only, then it became everyone.

I do not think at one time you could pass it down to children either, but of course you can now. I expect soon it will be open your children's children as well.

USAA is pretty fricking awesome.

I will say it is unimaginable that any company could be better at auto insurance. I would give them middling reviews on homeowners (personal experience) and they are not competitive on life insurance rates.

I can't really say on their banking, finance or investment options although more than 1 of my children use them for banking.

But auto insurance? A++

Hell, 20 years ago - when technology was not nearly as well developed, I had a fender bender on a Thursday, cat took pictures while I was at work on Friday, and I had a check for their estimate by the following Wednesday.

I made 1 5-minute phone call, received a second call for 1 minute to confirm where the car was located and cashed a check 5 days later. In 1998.

Agree A+ for auto and I would give an A for homeowners as well. Hailstorm put a whooping on the house and they were pretty smooth, easy and generous to work with.

Life insurance does suck and did not go with them.

I prefer banking with them over BofA. Everything is online, no branches. Refund ATM charges.

Mutual funds are pretty good, not a real fan of their other investing options.

not true. I saw a Nationwide commercial with Peyton Manning last night that had an interracial couple.

We were looking at selling the wife's old car a few years back... then a deer ran out in front of her one day and fricked up the front end. USAA came out, looked at it, and cut me a check for more than the car was worth all within a few days time.

Well that is their target audience.

In most stable normal military families, the wife handles all the day-to-day financials.

You got to pump them up, let them know how important they are.

USAA is way too fricking expensive. I wish I wasn't too lazy to change providers and save like $2000 per year on my home, condo, and car insurance.

I just hate their advertising strategy.

"Every time I call USAA, they refer to me as Master Sergeant Webber".

So fricking what? Since USAA strokes your ego, that makes them a great insurance company?

I find it funny when USAA ads pop up on my Facebook page and there are like 20 immediate comments trashing them, along with some representative saying "Oh no! I am so sorry your USAA experience hasn't been positive! Private message me and I will see what I can do!"

I find Navy Federal commercials more annoying. Especially the one about the chick planning her honeymoon. Seems like they've been running that one for 10 years.

The slander of USAA needs to stop

last year we had a huge storm and hail caused a frick ton of damage.

A couple days later they had a team of about 6 guys out here doing estimates for car damage

When my on-post housing was burglarized, their renters insurance had the money in my account in four days. Never had a bad interaction with them.

You need to talk to my mom and my dad although my dad can't talk since he's passed...but USAA was total jerks after Hurricanes Rita and Ike.

We have USAA and I'm really concerned with North Carolina being a military state how many USAA policy holders are there...and how much they will raise OUR homeowner rates to cover their losses.

As far as auto...the trick there is to call way after 6pm...I won't deal with Tampa Bay office...and since I'm east of the Mississippi...that's the office all claims are handled from...if I call late I get San Antonio or Denver...much better agents.

Sometimes I think USAA has gotten too big for their britches.
