I wonder if they counted the unborn baby in the death toll?

the driver of the metallic blue tercel in the turn lane just experienced PTSD.

I would imagine there will quite a few that will be seeing this wreck/victims in their head for the rest of their lives.

Vehicles have the technology to prevent a car being started by someone under the influence. And I believe there is legislation to mandate these be installed on cars. Most people are against these government interventions, but I would expect the husband of the woman and baby killed in this tragedy wished the breathalyzer was in that woman's Mercedes.

Yeah I’m not sure how I would handle seeing a mangled, dead one year old lane in front of me.
Just watching the video is going to affect my day.

I wouldn't be against this at all. Would have prevented me from doing a few stupid things over the years.

Can't believe how many cars went through the intersection without stopping to try and help
Welcome to LA. I've seen emergency vehicles stopped at intersections because the assholes wouldn't get out of the way. Saw a LA County helo try and land for a medevac, and assholes were driving thru the intersection while the chopper was trying to land.
I could say something krass like she was late for her Botox injections, but it's probably true.

Did ANYONE rush out with a fire extinguisher? Aren't these required at service stations?

Awww that's nice, and convenient.

Appears that both windows are down and her hand is holding a phone out the window. Was she filming it?
In this day and age of sick fricks and technology, she could have been Facetiming with said boyfriend and said "Oh yeah? Watch this shite, a-hole" and stuck the phone out the window and floored it.
Truly sad all around. I've been living here over 10 years and I've seen enough to clinch the steering wheel at times going through intersections like that.

Just saw the video, that is horrible.
In the thread many are estimating the car was going 100+., that might be true. But unless you are in a tank any head on/t-bone collision over 70 mph with a completely stopped car will likely be fatal to people in the car, despite seatbelts (I always wear mine), airbags, and car safety features. Our bodies, especially our internal organs just aren't built to handle that level on brunt force trauma. Can't defeat physics.
Sucky part is if the driver is restrained they have a much better chance of survival, which happened here.

There’s something to be said for the requirement in most European countries that vehicles be fitted with a fire extinguisher mounted in easy reach (usually the front of the driver’s seat). While in a case like this it probably wouldn’t have made a difference, I’ve witnessed high speed crashes on the German autobahn where folks were definitely saved by surrounding drivers exiting their vehicles and combining the use of their fire extinguishers.

I was t-boned by someone doing 60 mph earlier this year. Somehow everyone was able to walk away with minor injuries. ER ended up taking radiographs and CT scans of most of my whole body because everything just hurt like hell; impossible to isolate the pain. I was knocked out even though me head didn't actually hit anything but the side curtain airbag.
I feel fortunate everyday to be alive and mostly back to my pre-accident activities, especially when I look at photos of my car.
