If there is other intelligent life in the Universe - it can't get here or even have a way to detect our presence. The speed-of-light cosmological speed limit and inverse square law coupled with cosmic distances between stars ensures our isolation.

Do you even Star Trek bro? Speed of light is just a number

There are so many planets, even highly intelligent aliens that travel to other galaxies might never find us
They also could have already visited Earth before life ever developed.

Possibly, but a race that advanced would also understand the impact of revealing themselves to us at this stage in our development. They may be watching us but concealing themselves
There are some crazy alien theories where there are multiple races interested in earth, and the least advanced are the ones that have ufos and abduct people, the middle range are the “ancient aliens” that tried to help early humanity, and the most advanced are protecting us and try to keep the less advanced from meddling in our world. It’s kind of like the lost tribes in Africa and the amazon that have no contact with the outside world, first world countries want to leave them be, but the 3rd world countries around them want to meddle with them

In the end, humans have only been around for small amount of time relative to the Universe. Saying that there is a certainty that we are alone because we would’ve seen evidence by now seems really stupid. It’s like opening the door to your house for an hour and coming to the conclusion that there are no dolphins because one didn’t walk in.
I just think the universe is so vast and the time to get between two points is so great that it almost doesn’t matter if there is life out there because it could be impossible for two civilizations to ever encounter each other.

Love when scientist try to make humans feel super special
Was going to post this article but searched and saw there was already a topic. So my reply to comment above, based only on what we know scientifically to date, human are "super fricking special".
Whether you believe we are the prized creation of a supreme being or the result of billions of years of evolution, or something in between, we have found no evidence that anything else like us exist. In fact, with our current knowledge of science, and specifically physics, we can't even really expect to find other intelligent life in universe in any reasonable timeline, the only hope is "they" find us first.

Based on what?
IMO... based upon probability alone... given the vastness of the universe as we know it.. not even taking into consideration the part of the universe we do not know about....

So....question:
Can one believe in God, and be a devout Christian and also believe that there could be other intelligent life in our universe?

Disagree here. We take our own technology for granted but there are some brilliant minds on our planet. You have a device in your hand right now that can access most of the information known to us within seconds. 750,000 pound hunks of metal fly across oceans. I think it’s likely that advanced aliens are out there, but any “far more advanced” probably would’ve conquered us by now for slave labor or experimentation

This. There is no possibility that we could even detect their presence with our existing technology. Even if we could we would be looking at light that has traveled thousands of years to get to us and they might not exist now.

I think most people would characterize me as a devout Christian... I think there "could" be other intelligent life out there...
There is nothing in the Bible saying there isn't other life in the Universe...

Whoa, whoa, WHOA.
You're assuming there's intelligent life on THIS planet.

Same here, I'm a Christian, a sci-fi geek, TNG is one of my favorite shows ever, and I believe there is intelligent life out there somewhere.
That said, unless we 1) have some unexpected technological jump that changes or entire understanding of matter and physics, 2) find a real-life infinity stone, or 3) we get raptured to planet heaven somewhere out there, I don't think we are capable of finding intelligent life in space.

I read it off the Wait But Why site and the comments were also very interesting. Several people mentioned the fiction book: Saturn Run by John Sandford as another idea/scenario. I'm reading it now. About 1/2 way through it. Really good.

I can't access the link in the op, but it has been suggested that despite us being a grain of sand, organisms with a couple billion years head start on us should have reached us or become obvious to us by now.
That's exactly what the Fermi paradox says. If there are intelligent aliens, we should have seen strong evidence by now. Therefore, aliens don't exist. (I believe Fermi said this in the 50's).
What we do know: There's billions of planets similar to earth out there. That is, rocky planets orbiting 2nd generation stars with comparable atmospheres and temperatures. We know this for a fact now. We've already identified a few of them and we've only had the technology to really look for about 20 years.
What we don't know: How likely life is to evolve on said planets. Is it 1 in a 1000 chance? 1 in a million? 1 in a billion? And if simple organisms evolve, how likely is it that these organisms evolve into intelligent creatures? No one has a clue.
My own hunch is life is out there but rare. It's rare enough that there may only be a couple of races per galaxy. Even if they are supremely advanced, there's little chance they ever bump into one another (or even live at the same time).
Also factor in the speed of light barrier. It's very possible there is no way to overcome this (even with technology way beyond ours). Therefore, these races don't even bother with deep space travel.

Another side of the question "is there intelligent life out there" is this...
What if we are the only intelligent life??
