That's horrible.
A few months ago, I was having lunch ina BBQ restaurant and a middle aged woman choked at the table beside me. Myself and another man worked on her for several minutes having to repeatedly perform the Heimlich maneuver. She was 100% choked twice during the wait time for EMS to arrive. We got her breathing but, it was still there and she was in bad shape. I was so relieved for those EMS guys to take over for us.
While she was completely choked, she turned blue and was quickly losing consciousness. She was just limp and helpless. It scared the shut out of me. I was pretty rattled after the event.

You would think someone there could perform the Heimlich maneuver.
Anyone over the age of 16 should know this, CPR, and basic first aid.
I've only had to use the Heimlich once but the thought of having to sit there helplessly watching someone choke gives me chills.

I don't get how she died. Surely someone would have realized she was choking if that was the cause.
Sad!

This was almost me in 1991 in LSU union. I was at LYS & someone had bright idea for a Twinkie eating contest. Well, as the biggest guy in my group I was chosen. A few minutes later a Twinkie or two is lodged in my airway like a sponge. I was very fortunate & I always vocalize that event when the topic is brought up. Not benign

I read the article from ctpost and it says she had a seizure after she spat out pancake after eating 3. She had multiple food allergies, so doesn't appear to be a case of choking.

Happened to me with a bay leaf which is why I don't cook with bay leaves anymore.

Hope she didn't get teased with being called "pancake titties" in 8th grade +
That would be terrible irony to realize as you're dying, since it was killing her a little inside every day up to that point

she died later at the hospital. idk how that even works when it comes to choking
She was likely dead but CPR continued during transport, not officially pronounced until hospital.

When she said she would "win or die trying", she fricking meant it.

She died 3 days after the incident.

A 20-year-old Connecticut college student whose father was killed in the Sept. 11 attacks has died after choking during a pancake-eating contest.
I hope she and her Dad are giving the finger to whatever deity greeted them on the other side right about now.

The problem with Twinkies is they are like a sponge. As you try to gulp water to wash it down it starts expanding.

not what i expected really. she doesn't look big enough to be competing in an eating contest.

Have you seen the dude who won multiple hot dog eating contests that they hold in NY on July 4th? He is a tiny Asian dude.

They did and were unsuccessful. Police officers tried as well and administered CPR.
They say it wasn't allergies but reported "she does have extensive food allergies".
This just seems weird after just 4 or 5 pancakes. Sounds like her throat closed maybe.
