Did you provide receipts or any other additional information along with your application? I'm trying to get reimbursed for food as well.

I've been denied since 9/3 and just got a new letter saying I'm approved. They didn't ask for any further correspondence from me.

quote:

FEMA has reviewed your application for disaster assistance. FEMA Assistance is not a substitute for insurance and cannot cover all losses caused by a disaster; it is intended to help with emergency disaster recovery needs. This letter explains the assistance you are eligible to receive.

ASSISTANCE APPROVED

You are eligible for a total of $500.00:
The U.S. Department of the Treasury will either mail you a check or deposit the funds into your bank account.

Eligible - Critical Needs Assistance (ECNA)
You have been APPROVED for $500.00 for Critical Needs Assistance, which is for critical expenses for items such as food, water, infant formula and diapers, hygiene products, and prescriptions.

I imagine receipts and whatnot are only needed for reimbursement beyond the $500 standard amount.

Looks like they sent me a letter 2 days ago requesting receipts for anything I purchased, but I never got a notification about it so never sent anything and now I'm approved.

People who got reimbursed for a generator, how did you submit your receipt? Specifically, what options did you select in the dropdown menus on the disaster assistance website. FEMA sent us a letter about uploading proof of purchase but all it says is: Login, go to the correspondence tab, upload document and then follow the on page instructions... Of which there are none as far as generators are concerned and I'm not seeing anything seemingly related to generator reimbursement.

It's drop-down labeled "essential tools" or something like that.

I saw that option but it said something about it being required for employment, of which they want proof of as well.

Not for generator and chainsaw. Those have been declared blanket reimbursement at up to $800 and up to $250 respectively. You use essential tools as the drop-down and you make sure the receipts have handwritten Fema registration #, last four of ss, and disaster # on the top. I believe the employment stuff would be if you lost a laptop and that will require notarized forms, probably an affidavit etc.

Applied on 9/5/21, FEMA rejected my claim, but I received a notification this morning that I am eligible to receive the $500 payment.

FEMA replied to my email and said they have waived the medical necessity and power outage verification documents for reimbursement of generators.

But has anyone actually gotten the reimbursement yet? I have not. I uploaded my receipts 9/9.

Interesting, though not at all surprising. Was never really expecting to get it.

In the upload history tab, it only says “rejected” instead of “pending” now. There doesn’t look to be an appeal option and there are no notes or explanations.

Do a cover letter converted to pdf and label as same drop-down "essential tools."

You have to think like a gov't worker. They love redundant cover letters that has your identifying numbers at the top, date it, and reiterate your generator dollar amount, where you bought it, receipt number etc. Hell, even thank them in advance for reviewing. And be sure to use a few gov't buzz words in the body of your cover like "critical, essential, subject matter, etc." You get the idea.

Would it be safer to go with a PNG instead of PDF? I'll try everything you said.
