The idea of letting the president decide how much money and to whom gets paid to the cities and states is a terrible idea, but all the others seem to be worse.
Kind of emphasis that point to elect better leaders. If you only want leftist cities getting assistance, then elect another Biden. Hell, FEMA was as bloated as it ever has been and the people of NC didn't get shite because they didn't vote the way the left wanted.

Who else was responsible for that then?
Congress you dumb frick, which is a Republican Congress.

Congress doesn't run FEMA. They appropriate funds for FEMA. FEMA head is an unelected position APPOINTED by POTUS. Good try, though.

What has FEMA done for you after a hurricane?
There will still be federal assistance. We dont need a huge bloated agency to do it
It's wild how many people are either too stupid to understand this or are just playing the "I disagree with everything OMB does, arrrrrghhh!!!" card.
What did FEMA do for people after Hurricane Katrina that can't happen today without a bloated organization? The FEMA red-tape bullshite hasn't done shite for the people in North Carolina, Maui or California.
Stop being dramatic, losers.

Which guess what Congress did not provide funds to give out to North Carolina disaster. Also the president authorized the max he could do within his powers. Which was 750 dilllars which you know the dems when they had Congress raised from what 450 dollars. So as you said good try.

Oh, just this.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Wednesday that there is not enough money available for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to meet the needs of the communities affected by Hurricane Helene, which has killed more than 160 people.
The funding shortfall has come under scrutiny at a time when at least $640 million in FEMA funding is being spent on assisting communities across the country dealing with an influx of migrants.

In light of false reporting and charges from politicians, FEMA is setting the record straight. North Carolina received one of the longest 100% cost share periods in FEMA’s history — 6 full months of full federal funding for debris removal and emergency protective measures. Today, the state is still receiving a 90% cost share. Due to the severity of the disaster with Hurricane Helene, exacerbated by the previous administrations’ mismanagement and neglect, FEMA is currently providing North Carolina a 90% federal cost share, far exceeding the normal 75% and the same amount the state of North Carolina requested on December 6, 2024.
Through FEMA’s Public Assistance program, which provides funds for state and local governments’ response and recovery work, the state received more than $484 million at a 100% federal cost share for 180 days, funding projects for road repair, debris removal, critical infrastructure repair and more. Since January 20, 2025, more than $172 million in Public Assistance reimbursements has been approved to support the recovery efforts in North Carolina.
In addition to the higher threshold federal cost share, federal emergency management support to North Carolina has accelerated under President Trump’s administration.
More than 785 staff remain deployed on North Carolina, assisting with recertification of Direct Housing and Temporary Housing Units, supporting 2,700 Public Assistance projects, coordinating debris removal and survivor casework. Over 45 of FEMA’s North Carolina staff are locally hired, joining the agency after Helene and bringing valuable local knowledge to the recovery efforts.
More than $455 million has been approved for North Carolina survivors to help pay for food, medicine, housing assistance and home repairs.
More than $22.4 million has been provided to nearly 7,900 North Carolinians to repair or replace private roads and bridges damaged by Helene.
Nearly 12.8 million cubic yards (CY) of debris have been removed from waterways, roads, homes and business, with more than 4.7 million CY removed since President Trump took office.
So i'll take Trump's handling of this over $750 from Biden, you twit.

Keeping in mind this is AFTER FEMA leadership admitted to screwing over a major portion of the victims in this area because they didn't vote a certain way.
Frick FEMA.

Repurposed and made more efficient? Sure, definitely needed.
Dissolved? That is not going to end well.
They send hundreds of millions to California to house their migrants.
From, FEMA. Just in case that wasn't clear.

2016, FEMA was useless. It was the Louisiana program that actually helped later on. All FEMA did was push SBA loans on people that didn't understand what they were getting into and
This ! ^^
I had several homeowners in their late seventies, early eighties, mostly widows who were refused assistance from FEMA and were instead encouraged to apply for an SBA loan. How they expected an 80 year old woman to pay back the loan I do not know.

Correct. I live in hurricane country and this does not move me in the slightest. Local "leadership" should handle this.
Funny thing is, everyone knows what "leadership" will fail you ever single time, yet if that is pointed out....
PS - I voted for one of the past failed leaders. At least I can admit that (Kathleen Bimbo Blockhead). I won't make that mistake again.

Good. I will always support less centralized government.

Trump added that the federal government will start distributing less federal aid for disaster recovery and that the funding will come directly from the president’s office.
This part, however, seems like a terrible idea.

FEMA sent me a collection notice to remunerate them for the Katrina card they issued to me.

Trump continues to be great at shrinking the federal government where it is actually logical and needed, and bloating it where his major donors want, and it is actually unneeded.
Par for the course for the MAGA idiots and their supporters. This sounds like Jindal cutting EKL from 200 beds to 40 right before Katrina and Rita hits only to make the disaster of those two storms even worse and cost lives.
No clear plan to replace it and sounds as bad as Obamacare when it as implemented and when Trump and the right pushed for it to be eliminated without an actual replacement plan in place.
You can remove FEMA, but at least explain how you plan to set up the new system in reasonable detail, other than "Governors and States can handle it on their own".
But hey, Mrica!
