Haven’t been to Gulf Shores in 7 years.

Its quite easy to understand actually. I want to knock out my bucket list without having to drag a kid around on an airplane or worry about spending extra money on another being

People with no kids can't know which is better. People who do have kids have been on both sides and have a base for comparison.

I have 2 kids and can do most of that...

Don’t have to worry about picking up or dropping off anyone from school.

Bus picks up and drops off in front of our house.

Can leave and take a spontaneous trip without finding a babysitter.

Oldest is 16 and our 24 year old niece lives close by. Both have close friends they could also stay with.

quote:

Can go out to eat/drink without a baby sitter.

See above.

quote:

No one to take care of when I get home

Both of mine are pretty self sufficient. Driving the youngest to and from tennis and/or swim practice is about it. They're both really good about doing their homework on their own as well.

Nobody asking me for an allowance.

You son of a bitch.

So you hired a babysitter to feel childless again.

Yeah, 26 with no kids was pretty great for me too.

It was so good, I can’t recall ever thinking for a moment that I needed to try and prove it to those who had produced offspring.

Kids are great as well.

Look I think the OP sounds like a massive douche as well...but the whole "I'll be lonely when I'm older if I don't have kids" rationale for having children is very flawed. Go to any nursing home in the country. Ask the staff about how often family visit most of the residents that live there. Death in itself is a lonely experience. Having children doesn't guarantee that you will be in a bed with all your family surrounded by you holding your hand as you pass.

Very true, though as someone childless I do worry a little about at least someone being there to make sure I make good decisions about my care and health. All the crap I saw my parents deal with in the last few years of my grandparents lives.

But I figure once my nieces and nephews are a bit older I’ll have a chat with them and explain that while uncle bruco isn’t rush, he isn’t poor either. So keep an eye on my old arse or that cash is going to the special Olympics or some other charity I like. Lol.

People who do have kids are blinded by emotion and understandably so.

You don't love having kids because you love changing diapers and paying for travel ball. You love it because you love your kids that much.

lol. This explains it. Yeah, having kids in your early to mid 20s is a bad idea for most people IMO.

Sure.

If I want to do something with my wife only, we do it. I can always have the "freedom" the OP has.

The OP can never just have his own kids for a day.

Depending on how young they are, it's more of a burden than without kids. I don't imagine you can fully relax with children around. At least not both husband and wife. My wife and I have been gone probably close to half of the weekends of this year. My dog sitter comes and picks my dogs up and drops then off when we get back. Can't do that with a kid. That being said, we fully plan to have kids within 3-5 years, but we enjoy married life without them for now.

I didn't mean bring him with me on the road trips. My situation is different since I'm a single father. I get my parents to watch him, which they love to do, while I'm gone. It's pretty simple to make plans ahead since the schedules comes out months before the games.

Maybe, but I don't think it warranted your response. I doubt he meant anything ill towards people who have issues conceiving or have lost children.

I was selfish just like you until I had a kid and it changed me completely. Hardest and best thing I’ve ever done and continue to enjoy doing

Kids are fun to travel with.

My 2 year old has been to 3 other countries and 30ish states so far. If you look at kids as a handcuff to your lifestyle, maybe you shouldn't have any. Your lifestyle doesn't have to drastically change just because you have children.

Unless you're poor...

But you're still young. You don't "get it" yet.

That is an extremely short-sided viewpoint but also a very common and popular stance today because anything not affording people instant self gratification and requiring any work is usually avoided. Kids are hard and cost money but they are the best parts of us and sometimes that is hard to see when you are young
