I have no problem with this.

I'd also add the following:

1st DUI = One Year in Jail. No ifs, ands or buts.
2nd DUI = Two Years
3rd DUI = Six Years
4th DUI = You aren't ever getting out of jail. Ever.

I'm biased, though, because two of my daughters best friends were killed by a drunk driver back in May.

People that drink and drive are just idiots.

People who equate all different levels of drinking and driving are also idiots. Very sorry for your loss and I understand that your position is driven by emotion, but that's a very big problem. It's irrational and illogical and is no basis for creating laws that mandate prison time.

What people forget about Drunk Driving is that most deaths from driving impaired are WAY OVER .08

quote:

drunk driving deaths (7,145 or 70 percent) involved drivers with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .15 or higher.

And it's not 0.15 was most of the accidents, it's like .25 and higher were the cause of most accidents, but you can NEVER find that information because people in the media don't want to give people the inclination that it's okay to drink a "lil bit"

That's why the limit use to be 0.16 BAC, but just like the no-smoking people, they continue to chip away, til they get what they can, then putting fear into the next generation of kids, wait for them to grow-up a bit, and then chip away some more, until they achieve their Utopian smoke and alcohol free world

There is absolutely no way you can know this. Especially if "drunk" is defined by approximately 2 drinks.

I drink and drive pretty regularly. I had a drink with dinner last night and then drove my family home. Why does that make me an idiot?

30% is still a huge number, and I bet they fell between .08 and .15

particularly in towns like Monroe. No cabs, No Uber. It is basically impossibly to have drink outside of your home without having a DD.

This would just be a way to shut down bars and hurt restaurants.

I was talking about seeing cars that are swerving and driving erratically that I pass by or pass me. Almost every time the driver has a phone in their hand and they're looking right at it instead of the road.

if they'd publish the stats instead of masking it for fear effect, we may see some trends. Like a majority of the 30% of .08 to .15 are single car crashes, young guy goes speeding around a corner with liquid courage killing HIMSELF.

It's not the same as the BAC that causes a person to drift over into a head on collision killing OTHERs

It is quite easy to go to a bar and have no more than one or two drinks and still have a good time. I do it all the time.

this is not really a point if you've ever had alcohol, then at some point it was in your system and over time it metabolized out of your system. i guarantee you that you had no idea of its status as it metabolized and, more importantly, the exact point where you were OK to drive. the question isn't how much you've had to drink; the question is the time necessary to metabolize alcohol. that's a fluid scenario

If you plan to drink, have a designated driver. It's not really that hard to do. I don't care if I have one or five drinks, if I put any alcohol in my body I let my wife or someone who hasn't had any drinks drive me home. I don't understand why people want to put any level of alcohol in their system and get behind the wheel. I guess whenever it directly impacts you, only then you'll gain an understanding. (not specifically speaking about your SFP, just speaking in general terms)

If you're drunk enough to not be able to handle a curve in the road without killing yourself, you're drunk enough to drift over into a head on collision killing others.

no bar would exist then, everyone drinks in groups of 5?

at best, you are looking at an avg of 2 per vehicle, meaning 1/2 your customers...won't be?

stick it up your utopian arse

Yup, they use the texting and left lane laws solely for DWI stops. They don't pull people over for it if they aren't looking to question someone

How many of those accidents are actually caused by said alcohol though? If someone is .25, alcohol was obviously the largest contributing factor. .08 it starts to get murky.

My wife and I often go to dinner and each have a drink (sometimes two). Neither of us is impaired. Why shouldn't one of us drive home?
