Well they have been able to do this behind closed doors for awhile, this has not just begun.

Anyone who posts anything in Facebook or anywhere else shouldn't really expect privacy anymore.
It's sad that it's that way, but it is.
Same for cellphones and computers. Anything stored/transmitted using them or on them is pretty much wide open.
Luckily, for 99% of us, the govt has bigger fish to fry. But if you get in the cross hairs of LE, then they can tear yur life apart using online means. Bank accounts, emails, social media, phone records, location tracking, texts, you name it....
It's sad that it's that way, but it is.

There are a few tech companies that specialize in taking social media aggregate data and do things with it that would make some people give up their interwebs.

Facebook doesn't have to give them anything without a warrant, court order, or NSL. Any data they receive without those legal avenues is an issue you should take up with Facebook.

Simple solution is to delete your social media accounts. Plus you don't have to look at people's ridiculous shite.

And with people putting these Google and Amazon devices, Alexa or whatever, that's basically a big bug and microphone/recording device that people are not only voluntarily putting in their homes, they're paying for them.

I deleted FB about 7 or 8 years ago. I do use twitter, but if the feds logged into my account they would be very disappointed.

You don't need a warrant for info that is available to the public. Most idiots on FB make their profiles available to everyone.
